Honestly, if I filled out a survey where it actually asked me where chocolate milk came from, I'd probably find the question so dumb that I'd just put brown cows too.

To be fair. They aren't technically wrong. Brown cows do produce milk that can be turned into chocolate milk.

For an article reporting on American ignorance, they sure love leaps in logic. I'm trying to understand how they extrapolated a survey of ~1000 participants and made an analogy to 16+ million people and think it makes sense.

If the people were chosen a certain way, you don't need to survey everyone

WaPo says it was a nationally conducted online survey.
Also, if 1,000 people represents the entirety of population and then you get 7% of people are dumb, ... then you figure that 7% of the entirety of the actual population would be about 16 million people.

This is the dumbest extrapolation i have ever seen

The survey was online volunteers which creates it's own special type of bias. And only 7% actually said they believed this. So it failed at 90% level of confidence and that not taking into account the trolls that beefed up this survey (back to the internet survey bias)

That being said.... people are dumb.
