Ok. I just watched this episode.

Can someone tell me how the devil they pulled off a "the planet/tournament is gonna explode/start in 5 minutes/any second now"? And in 2 episodes, no less? A disturbing amount of Frieza arc parallels all throughout this episode, it is unreal.

And that Piccolo/17 handshake has not been talked about nearly enough.

Frankly, I'm just glad this tournament is actually gonna be starting now. This agonizing pacing has been the most DBZ thing this show's done yet.

I look at it this way. In the frieza arc way back in the day, frieza said "the planet will explode in 5 minutes" explicitly, cue the fight going on for 2 more hours.

Here, we know there's a time limit they're cutting it close on, but I don't recall them ever outright saying "Crap buu fell asleep and it's 10 minutes before the tourney." So we as the audience don't actually know how long they have when all this is going on.

What bugs me is that Goku just didn't go SSB to get out of the hakai ball, and how smug frieza is afterwards that he couldn't escape it, when he clearly didn't use his full power. And if he did waste some energy, why couldn't they just grab dende and heal him real fast?

It feels different to me from the slow pacing in DBZ because they've been focusing on different characters just about every week, instead of one long drawn-out battle.

The only thing I'm disappointed by with the last episode is that there's no room left for surprise when Frieza betrays his team because he outright said he plans to.

Yeah I was looking forward to frieza actually fighting in the tournament but now I'm just expecting him to solicit every team DURING THE TOURNAMENT until he finds a taker, so he can both survive and kill goku. Although, man, it'd be hilarious if frieza tries to kill goku during the tournament and zen'o gets pissed and erases him forever. HOORAY!

I took it that he just couldn't transform while already hit by the blast. Had he been Blue before getting trapped he could probably handle it, but not from already inside it.

I mean not like it's at all made clear or anything but at least that's how I make it work for me.

I hope you're all still reading the manga. Things continue to play out a bit differently than the anime but the things that are the same they give a better explanation on why they happened
