What I'm trying to say is that it each game is supposed to be a retelling of the same Legend, then someone fucked up when it came to Wind Waker because its details vary so much.

Nah, that might have been the idea way back when Link to the Past came out, MAYBE even Ocarina of Time.

But fans pretty much forced Nintendo into creating a timeline with their bitching.

They can believe that but they're wrong. It's canon that each game takes place.

I always find it funny that Zelda fans get so worked up over the timeline when it's very clear that Nintendo doesn't actually give that much of a shit.

I see. Well, such variations happen IRL.

I never got why people wanna force timelines to that extent. BotW felt pretty independent though, since none of the other Zeldas seem like the basis for BotW's "ancient civilization" and its own Link and Zelda. I know it's implied that OoT, MM, SS all happened in the same universe, but they certainly aren't actively involved

Breath of the Wild was the clearest indication that they don't really give a shit about the timeline since they have races co-existing that shouldn't, they have technology from "the past" when there wasn't anything of the sort in the other games.

Like, I mean, clearly Nintendo will just say it's the last game in the timeline to appease the fans but it's clear they just don't really give a shit and focus on the game more than the stupid timeline shit.

WW seems like the closest. Maybe the ocean dried up? Has koroks and Ritos in it, a lot more mountains in it than a typical zelda which could have been the old islands. Although idk how the Zoras came back since the Ritos were supposedly descended from the Zoras.

It's honestly whatever anyway. Each game can pretty much stand on its own and each Link could be a different Link (aside from OoT/MM, WW/PH and the Oracle games). They throw a couple of Easter Eggs referencing previous games all the time and there's a lot of overlap in stories and locations and tribes and such, but I mean is it really that important?

Hyrule is a land controlled by goddesses. They could just bring the Zora back.

LOL. I love the fact that Zelda fan boys are more interested in the time line than the creators.
I love the Zelda games myself. But I don't give a crap about the time line. LOL

I actually bought the official "Hyrule History" book. It's a brick. But never opened it.

It's something fun to speculate online with other big fans of the series with, and I engage in it myself sometimes but it's never been anything that serious to me. It's the ones that treat it like the timeline is that necessary and important that annoy me.

Really wish Nintendo never came out with their own timeline and just let the fans come up with their own theories. I think they were just trying to shut their fans up, but it had to opposite effect because now these theories and such were validated and now every game they make in the series has to fit somewhere now.

Breath of the Wild clearly takes place in the Twilight Princess timeline, though, as Zelda specifically mentions the hero of the sky, time and twilight but not winds.
