Max amounts on alcohol/food

When I went to Jamaica my dude almost booked one that had a three drink max/$20 meal max per day.

Only once and it was with my folks back when I was in either high school or college. It was a beachfront one down in Mexico (this was back before the US built a wall so tall that even planes couldn't fly over it) which served food right on the beach from dawn until late at night. Other than the beachfront with some of the best octopus I've ever eaten, a lot of the details kinda blur together with all of the other nice hotels, etc, I've stayed at over the years.

Hell yeah! Iberostar in Jamaica was top notch. Decent pool and clean beaches. All you can eat buffet for breakfast and lunch and then 3 different styled restaurants to eat for free at night. Plus free alcohol and entertainment.

You'll probably have to sit through some timeshare spiel but take whatever free stuff they have and say no thanks.

I've been to a couple of others in Mexico that were great too.

You'll want to see what kind of beach access there is (secluded, private beach, public). What kind of facilities and activities they have available. How easy it is to get to things outside of the resort.

I've done one all inclusive and much preferred just renting a condo in the area and doing things on foot over the resort. Resort was very nice, I just find that they're around to encourage gluttony and sloth and while that's a nice break it just felt excessive and gross.

i don't think it is. for two people for a week long vacation in another country with all food/alcohol included seems pretty reasonable to me.

That's fair, the resorts tend to be outside of cities and towns and I like being able to check out those kinds of things without the hassle of a taxi or shuttle. Staying in old Puerto Vallarta was nice. Still ate and drank all I wanted but got to cook or just dine out.

the only thing i'd really want to do plan a day at the sloth sanctuary and then maybe some jungle hikes but i'm really bad at planning.

i may talk to a travel agency to see what they can help with but idk about that yet

yeah plus he may need to buy a new car soon. but if i save like $300 a month plus use some of my bonus money/tax return we could easily go to costa rica next summer. it'll be great. i'm gonna try to plan one day at the sloth sanctuary and the rest at an all inclusive resort just to relax.

That seems insane to me. You have to also take in to consideration that food and alcohol outside of America is insanely cheap. You may find going grocery shopping on your first day will save you a grand or so then if it was an all inclusive. I recently went to a place outside of Mexico and a 12 pack of Corona was around $3 and a jug of Bacardi was around $12.

i mean this is including airfare.

i'd rather pay more to stay on a bomb ass all inclusive on the ocean where people serve me shit than get some hotel somewhere and buy a jug of bacardi. i can buy a jug of bacardi and drink it in my living room.

IKR... usually it's reversed and the money ends up getting spent buying a collection of shoes.

I really like the idea of a vacation after a first year of college, but make sure tuition and transportation (a car) are taken into account. Those things are more important (and lasting) than a vacation.

He's going back to school so it's not his first rodeo haha. Our finances are separate so he's paying his tuition and I'm gonna work overtime to pick up some extra for bills but he has a car now.
