I'm in a similar boat. Most of my ideology lines up with the concept of libertarianism, but most modern libertarians are too edgy, even for my standards. Like, they're not willing to budge on ANY stances regarding privatization/regulation and stuff. I agree with them on most of them, but the big turnoff for me is when it comes to environmental issues.

I whole-heartedly wish free markets would solve all our environmental issues, but I feel like it's just too big of a risk to take.

The anti-censorship and weapon rights and business rights and gay marriage and pot legalization and all that other good shit though, love it all. Despite that, can't really call myself a "libertarian".

Bourbon democrats and Goldwater Republicans are cool too, I'm just not one. I think social safety nets are better than bad, they're good.

Why

I have accepted government as necessary, at least in current western culture.

Depends entirely on what the cheeseburger typically costs, how much cheese it typically has, and what a hamburger costs.

Most likely I'd eat it and not say anything though.

I think markets are genuinely good, but especially the USA does too much to favor business, especially big business. But I think the interaction between labor and capital isn't bad per se; we just need to recognize that labor unions should be in equal footing with capital unions (ie, business). And, for another example, I prefer a carbon tax to complicated regulations or pure bans on emissions - problems like that require a 'technocracy' to solve, not a reliance on communism or capitalism in general. IMO.

Pretty much, buddy. There are lots of wedge issues where I think I don't accept either libertarian or liberal/progressive stances.

I don't really accept minarchism as coherent. Otherwise, I'd accept that my ideas fit a broadly libertarian ideology, but that itself is contextual. American libertarianism isn't in step with me, and the more encompassing definition that includes both left and right variants isn't accepted here

I also roll my eyes at how many in-disguise conservatives call themselves libertarians. You see it a lot on Facebook when relevant pages post stuff making fun of the GOP and like, and you see all the in-the-closet Republicans getting testy in the comment threads.
