So it begins with a... very strange bachelor party roadtrip with a ton of metrosexual guys with questing and catching fish for a stray cat.

Then the father who looks like a guy who will die, dies and now I'm inheriting his kingdom after it's been taken over by a gigantic empire and I just went into a tomb to find a ridiculously OP weapon that drains your health while using it.

And apparently the MC isn't voiced by Aaron Paul despite sounding exactly like him, that just annoys me.

And the camping out and eating food together, and the photos... it's all so weirdly cheesy and I'd be amazed if the four characters don't end up having a no homo orgy. And I hate them all. Does anyone else feel like I do?

Not sure why you're so uncomfortable about male relationships, but to address a couple of other points:

1. The story, as presented by the game alone, is disjointed. I'd recommend watching Kingsglaive (it fills in some important story details that happen off-screen in the game, and also provides motivation).

2. It took me a while to warm up to the Photography system too. Just go with it and I promise it will pay off. It has one of the best pay-offs in the entire game, actually.

I could have made such a better game and story square Enix should have listened to me. It would be like top gun meets backstreet boys meets the last emperor, full of lots of political intrigue, homoerotic feel-goodness, and cool action sequences that make you squeal in your pants.

I got a couple hours in and gave up. Just wasn't for me

It's really just supposed to be road trip with Bros.

And becoming a man and the consequences that can come from life.

It's told in a totally cheesy Japanese style that might not appeal to everyone though.

I really liked it.

The anime fills in a lot of the bros backstory. You learn how/why they became friends. Why a lot of that stuff wasn't present in game us beyond me. In game there's a moment with Prompto where he briefly mentions some backstory and that's about it.

It's.. not? that was the entire point of Kingsglaive.

the movie is better than the the game tho lol, largely due to Nyx being a fucking badass.

Oh yeah, sounds like it. A story shouldn't feel disjointed or lack proper context or motivation because part of it is missing.

I agree with you. I took your wording to say that "watching Kingsglaive helps to understand the story is bullshit", as in "that's not true".

But yea not including it in the game was moronic. They've since added some cutscenes from it, but still.

To be clear, I'm not defending the decision to put vital (imo) scenes exclusively in Kingsglaive. It is what it is.

I started playing the game first, and like I said, the story felt disjointed. I was learning about big story developments through newspapers and radio reports. I didn't feel like I was in a hurry to get to Altissia because I hardly knew who Luna was. The story was lacking propulsion. So I paused and watched the movie. It took care of all of those problems.

I would recommend the anime too. The material covered in the anime is truly optional but adds some depth to the main characters.

I'm saying it's not required to understand the game's main plot, which is a complaint ITT and a false one. I'm more annoyed at their complete disregard at character development outside of the main group (and even then...) and happy they're choosing to work on that more than anything else.
