I could not be more excited. I love the series but the PS2 versions are crazy expensive (like $70+ CAD per game) so I never got to play them.

Since it's coming to PC there's a fairly good chance it'll be localized.

A shame for me, as I own all of the originals and their worth is probably going to plummet. Guess it's good that more people will get to play the game, though.

I'd say there's a good chance. With the popularity of SAO, No Game No Life, and Log Horizon it's a good time for them to capitalize on being the first in the genre.

That's fair, but if they hadn't done this there's no way I would ever get to play the games. With this and Dark Cloud 1/2 being on there already I might be able to retire my PS2.

Sell! Sell now! The market's crashing!

If it makes you feel better even though the Tomba games are available digitally now the physical resale market didn't take a huge hit.

I remember renting the PS2 games and enjoying them when I was younger, hopefully this remake/remaster modernizes the gameplay a bit as a lot of games from that time tend to not hold up as well

http://www.siliconera.com/2017/06/13/hackg-u-last-recode-brings-plenty-system-changes-along-visual-improvements/
Evolution Point 2 – Game System Improvements

Added retry function
Cheat Mode (Play with maxed out level and equipment)
Movement speed increased
Item slot number increased to 90
Item menu shortcut and sort functions added
Certain items have consecutive usage function
Made easier to see empty equipment slots
Chim Sphere and Virus Core possession cap at 999
Reduced probability of allies selling off items you give them
Improvements that were made in Vol. 2: Reminisce and Vol. 3: Redemption will be reflected on Vol. 1: Rebirth in the HD Remaster.
Battle tempo increased with a rise in offensive ability and reduction in hitstop.
Weapon skill up rates increased
Increase in experience points gained
Some powerful enemies have been mitigated
Skeith’s shooting speed has been increased
Avatar battles have been rebalanced
In addition to being able to redo the Marriage Events in Vol. 3: Redemption, you’ll get to do it with all characters that become party members

Didn't even realize it's still played in volumes instead of just adding the cutscenes/bosses from parts 1 and 2 into the last one to make one full game, kinda disappointed in that, but it's no biggie I guess.

I kind of hope they fix the metal grunty cutscene because from what I remember, you couldn't skip it, or at least not all of it and you have to save him at least 100 times I think and that is incredibly tedious.

Hopefully, if they remake the original series too they fix the mage ai so they actually fight instead of standing there waiting for you to go all the way into the menu and choose an attack for them.

Indeed. I own the original series, but never bought G.U. because of how expensive they are. Not spending $300 on 3 old games, thanks.

Not necessarily. People were worried about Earthbound's value once it hit the eShop, but it never went down one bit. Same with Suikoden 2. Collectors will still buy old games to complete their collection; people that want to just play the games will buy the remastered versions.

The general consensus on the .hack boards back in the day was IMOQ (the first four) had overall the better story whereas the G.U. games had better everything else.

Also finally!!! I've been waiting for this announcement forever. All I need now is an announcement of an HD IMOQ and an HD localized version of LINK.

GU was good and they're both pretty close, but I'd say IMOQ was the better game.

The separating of fields and dungeons made for a complete lack of variety in areas in comparison and the purple barrier in the fights just plain sucked. I'd say that you added back the variety and freedom to move around in battle with GU's everything else then you've got a truly great game.

It's actually called .hack//games for the tetralogy, as there's a manga called imoq.

The game play of the first series was clunky. Good luck beating the first dungeon in outbreak if you didn't import a save, they give you awful gear and you can't change it or leave until you clear it or get a game over.

The enhancements this will have (999 chim spheres omg) means you won't get stuck in one room having to max the counter to open a few doors during the bonus dungeon of redemption. That's great news because if not for that, it will take about half as long. Seriously, the carts moved way too slowly and most chim kings would go to waste unless you used the areas that guarantee one appears.

It's such a massive story line... The basic premise is they revolve around an mmo called The World and as a result of a number of things surrounding its creation, there's problems that can put people into comas in the real world.

Literally, the premise was ripped off by SAO.

But unlike SAO, the .hack franchise has good characters who have dialogue that isn't teeming with teen angst. And it also has fantastic music. Especially the GU games. You can check out .hack//sign to get an idea of what the series is like as far as the anime goes.

If necessary I can break down the timeline and stuff as well.

Considering how poorly the original aged, they probably deemed it too hard to fix up for modern day, looking at what they did with G.U., even that extent couldn't modernize the gameplay

This. It helps if you watch roots but there's a certain episode that coincided so that the day it aired was also just after the second game releases. It's a pretty massive spoiler that deals with the main plot of the entire trilogy and roots.
