I mean I appreciate the sentiment, but the main issue was that all of the story shit in these things was a dumb, awful mess, not that it was hard to see. If I wanted to engage with this embarrassment of a plot I would have just bought the Remix games.

Actually, I think this is just an add-on to unlock Theater Mode for KH1. In 1.5+2.5, all the other games already have Theater Mode and only KH1 was missing for some reason.

Yeah KH isn't really that hard to follow at all. It only feels like it because people who haven't played the last 5 games think they can ignore them and then get confused by shit like 13 time traveling Xehanorts.

While I can't agree with this statement for myself, I will say that Dream Drop Distance reduced my confusion, as opposed to increasing it like it did for so many other people.

The writing is gibberish, but the key to understanding it is to just take it at face value.

When you start picking it apart and asking questions about the mechanics, it gets a little weird again, but nothing future installments can't retcon!

I think the only mechanical thing I'm confused about is the physiology of the people in KH. It sort of feels like they're little more than people-shaped flesh boxes filled with heart energy.

I have no idea what death means in the KH world.

It's implied there's this "soul" aspect that governs normal life and death, but the series rarely delves into that, and even when it does it's really vague.

Kingdom Hearts is cheesy and campy, and it embraces it. I love any series like that.

Playing through Birth by Sleep currently, and the plot hasn't really been hard to follow. The confusing stuff is what other people have mentioned about how in the heck life actually works in this universe.
