The issue with it is when people break down the votes as "educated" vs "not educated". They're basically going, "Hurr durr this side is stupid." When in reality, colleges are hiveminds that are swaying people's opinion in one direction. It has nothing to do with education or knowledge.

I'd guess that people will probably gradually sway back towards their natural opinions after they've been gone from that setting for long enough, though.

I've experienced it at several colleges and went through the dribbling castrated PC liberal type phase because it was practically forced onto me.

I actually laughed at the notion before college. They started indoctrinating us day 1. We had to go to a therapy session where we were supposed to cry about how people triggered us and there was this red haired dude who cried about that south park episode

It actually did happen. You can ask anyone who goes to my university about it.

We are forced to watch a play about thin privilege etc and then we sit in a therapy session with a member of the cast to cry about how the world is so hard and triggered us.

I merely said that I felt bad for laughing at South Park and laughing at "racist jokes"

(I was lying, it was very uncomfortable)

It's not 'critical thinking skills'. College goers are being forced to change their attitudes and opinions to fit in with the larger group. That's all it is.

Go to your average university and wear a Trump hat, and see how fast you get ostracized. Or forget Trump - Just try to have any conservative viewpoint at all. It's taboo to be a conservative on a college campus. That has nothing to do with critical thinking.

There was a lot of liberal bias in my college classes, but I never felt like I was being indoctrinated. I chalked it up to the professors just wanting to use their status as a professor to try and influence our political leanings, and that whether or not I wanted to be influenced was my choice. Of course, I already knew at that point that truths exist in many angles, and that there wasn't any right or wrong opinions on many matters, especially political ones.

Same except I went to college in Alabama where most of my professors and classmates were conservatives.

I think it's kind of silly. My sister is in school right now. I think she's nutty as hell. Part of it may be college but I chalk it up to more being young and not experiencing the real world and thinking you're smarter and more important than you are.

This isn't a knock on college students. I love my sister to death and would without second thought trade my life for hers. I just think people gain more common sense and an actual view of the world when they're working and have lived a bit longer.

Let's see if any other Calfornians here can confirm or deny this

I went to SF state. When I went I didn't. There was definitely a liberal bias but most of my professors welcomed debate and were happy to have someone give the opposing view.

This was like 6 years ago so grain of salt.

Just sit through whatever dumb shit rhetoric tossed at you to get your grade and then forget about it. It doesn't have a direct impact on you if you refuse to allow it. What you think is under your control.

So your instructor has some incredibly biased views, occasionally says some offensively cringey things, and shoots down comments that disagree with his/her narrative. That doesn't mean you have to adopt their beliefs. They wouldn't allow you to choose your classes if you were truly being forced to be brainwashed.

Eh, I never went to university because I couldn't afford to, but I did get a degree from community college so maybe the experience is completely different. Some teachers did lean pretty heavily to the left, but maybe only one or two really beat on it heavily (one was a sociology teacher and one was a major hippy chick that I had to drop because she insisted on making us write in journals about our feelings and putting smiley face stickers on them like we were in 1st grade). There were some feminist girls in some classes but none were ever obnoxious about it. Everyone was pretty normal.

Unless you're taking political science/sociology/psychology, I don't know why teachers are involving themselves in any political discussion.

I went to 3 different Cal state colleges: Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State La (which I will get to, because this school is horrendously liberal), and temporarily at Cal State Riverside and not once have I ever experienced any of the crap you just said. Now did all three of the schools I attended have a liberal bias? Yes absolutely, even in classes that had nothing to do with politics or religion, for the bad professors I can definitely tell what their political and religious affiliations were (most of them being liberal who are either not practicing Christian or Atheist). This became most noticeable when I went to CSULA (Cal State La), we were required to take elective courses, but had to take ones that were in the "diversity" and "race and ethnic" category.

Other than that, nope I never had watch 2 hours of anything about rape culture, I never had to do anything about no therapy session, and I was never mandated to watch plays about any privileged or what not. In many of my classes where I knew the class skewed towards the left on politics, the professors wouldn't pass you if your arguments were pure BS. A lot of them would pick on your papers if you used logical fallacies or didn't use peer reviewed sources for your papers. In fact, most of my papers were dinged primarily on my grammar (English is not my first language, but I was still required to learn like it's my first). And that was just elective courses, when I entered Upper Division in Business Accounting minoring in Finance, I ended up being surrounded by people who had more of a conservative leaning when it came to economics.

The only way I could see you having to participate in the other stuff you mentioned was if you majored in a liberal arts major like Philosophy, Psychology, Linguistics, etc.

I say coming out of college more liberal has nothing to do with indoctrination. Instead, you get introduced to people from all walks of life. Gay or straight. Rich or poor. All races, all religions, different countries.

And you find out that most people are as screwed up as you are, and want the same things out of life. You start to lose the us vs. them mentality and stop fearing the imaginary boogeyman.
