Current Events > Will any modem work? I'm not good with technology.

My internet has been down for about a week. It happened one other time for 2 days, but it resolved itself then.

Now my modem isn't even detecting a phone line attached to it at all. I made certain the bill was paid, and we ran new cables (phone wasn't working either). Now the phone works, but my internet is still down. My parents are insisting that the modem is bad and I need a new one.

So, would any work? Could I find a cheap one of from the internet? Can you even buy them from stores any where? Or do I have to order a new one from the phone company?

I know that in my country, you basically need a modem from the isp. Thats what the isp says at least

We need more details here, namely the type of internet connection you have and the provider.

Sorry, I'm on my phone and it keeps dropping the signal. It's very frustrating.

Anyway it's a dsl connection from my phone company, century link.

You'll wanna check DOCSIS versions and stuff, other than that, I forget.
