Really though that's my advice to anyone in the market for a home. Ask how old the HVAC system is. Anything older than 10 years? Either pass or demand the current homeowner replace the system.

Our last place was a rental where we didn't have to pay utilities.

70 degrees 24/7 from May - August then 77 degrees 24/7 from November to March. Only adjusted it in the other months when it wasn't too cold or hot out.

God that was fucking great. It's been seven months and I'm still not used to it. I did just call my electric company and have us put on a level plan so our bill is the same every month and gets adjusted every year based on actual usage. So I'm not really that worried about the bill, just interested in seeing what it shows the actual usage amount to be.

Ours is like 20 years old. They wouldn't replace it but paid for us to have a warranty on it and had it fully serviced before we moved in... So I'm kind of hoping it just breaks soon before it runs out. It's performing about as well as the one in our rental did. It's just hot as fuck outside and will be all week. Upper 90s and 100s.

On that note, my office is also getting the entire AC system replaced during the next week so we'll have absolutely no AC. 300 people, computers, lights, etc. So much fucking heat will be generated with nothing to stop it D:

My parents just had their AC redone. It was such a mess. We took down the ceiling and it turns out the duct work was completely backwards. So the unit is shot to hell plus it's ass-backwards.

And I'm telling ya, mate use the warranty or whatever for that system. 20 years is too old. The whole lot is going to need to be redone sooner rather than later.

From my understanding I can only get a replacement if it's actually broken

As it is now it still does its job

Worst case scenario I'll have to pay for a new system. Luckily my father-in-law works in HVAC so it won't be too terribly expensive.

If it's constantly running to get to the set temperature then it's broken. Just fight hard on this. Your father-in-law certainly knows more than I do but I don't want you to get fucked for something that really isn't your fault.

I'll have him take a look at it this week then and see what he thinks. Thanks for looking out!
