It might just mean that the builders just really liked being magnetically aligned. Or maybe there are just enough metallic things that the compass can do naught but point at them. If this point moves, then we should endeavor to move in the opposite way because that means some kind of super iron golem or something.

Vendrix will look around at the area looking for points of interest. He can't help but notice as groups start form at various doorways and passages. The compass on the floor points to door 8 where Lionel is already starting to open it. 'There has to be a reason why the compass is pointing toward that door, whatever the reason, in this place chances are it isn't good'. He will turn to door 7 to see someone knocking on the door. " There is safety in groups, I'd better go over there in case something answers back." Vendrix will assist Gorbachev at door 7, should the need arise.

Whatever is behind that couldn't possibly be anything good. Then again it could be showing the way forward, though given the recent events I doubt it.

Torun, noticing that door 9 has no one around it, will instead assist the others exploring door 7.

Carl will assist Aron Rex with Door 9, ready to use the Icy Knight Sword in case things go awry

As the group entered the Compass Room they began to spread out and investigate.
Everyone was eager to check out the second floor and what might be waiting there.
Well... there were a few exceptions to this case.
One person in particular, Larrington, happened to stop.
He was looking around just then and taking stock of those who had come to the second floor.
You see, there was a bit of a problem here.
A problem for Mara Raiev, in particular.
Her entire plan had hinged on her 'disappearing from existence.'
However, that wasn't possible.
Her normal way of doing things was to act alone.
But that is not what she did this time.
She had been fighting side by side with these Knights and the others all this time.
And for that reason she had done something by accident.
Something that a Raven should never do.
She created memories.
She created attachment.
And that guy, that solitary guy, Larrington, was thinking something at just that moment.
'Where did Mara Raiev go...?'
Because of that thought it was impossible for her to disappear completely.

Larrington turned around and peered down the Long Passage, the way they had come from.
Had she vanished in the darkness... or gotten lost perhaps?
He decided to go back and look for her.
But there was nothing and no one here with him, in the darkness.
There were only shadows here. Shadows and Larrington himself.
And then he heard it. A voice.
".....-ahead."
"Don't worry, I'll take care of this one."
Two voices. There were two voices. It wasn't just-
Larrington saw someone approaching him from the front. A figure clad in Red.
He went to draw his rapier again.
He had never needed to use it before coming here, but this place was dangerous.
It seemed he'd have to use it again. He-
Larrington's eyes opened wide with shock.
The enemy was behind him.
"Fu-!!"
Larrington spun around, drawing his sword.
And the enemy was gone again.
What the hell was hap-
Larrington heard a sound from above.
A blade dropped toward him from the ceiling. Only, it wasn't a blade.
It was like the phantom of a blade. An apparition.
A weapon that had ceased to exist or... or a weapon that didn't exist yet?
Just what the hell?!
Larrington twisted his body and tried to dodge,
but he found himself accidentally stumbling right toward his opponent.
The Red Wizard was poised here, his golden plated knife pointed forward.
It was there, waiting, for Larrintong to impale himself.
It was useless. It had all been useless.
It had all been completely fucking useless.
He was trapped between two death flags, then.
If he stood there the trap would spring and that other knife would strike him.
That was the blade that came from time itself.
Whether it was the past or the future it didn't matter.
Eventually the timelines would converge and it would meet with his flesh and kill him.
But if he moved to dodge it, which any sane person would do, he would jump willingly into his opponent.
And his opponent, who had set that trap, was of course waiting. Waiting to skewer him.
Larrington... why did he come here...?
Why did he think he could survive in a place that was meant for hardened adventurers...?
He was nothing. He was nobody. Just a wallet.
Truthfully, as a human being, he had no purpose in this world.
In that instant he proved himself completely worthless as a human being.
There was no reason for a person like him to exist.
Maybe it was better if he died then.

Blue light flickered and a plate of solid diamond leapt out of the shadows.
Mara Raiev spun through the air and slashed horizontally at the enemy.
Pyrik, panicking, pulled his knife away and moved his hand to defend himself.
The golden plate was torn in half.
His hand was severed from his wrist and went flying away.
"GUH!" Blood squirted out of his arm as he stumbled back, trying to escape Mara.
But she was already in mid swing and her momentum wasn't stopping.
The Diamond Edge ate through bone and flesh and blood and gold just as easily as air.
It was consuming him.
He crossed his other arm across his body and tried to put his hand in the way.
The pointed edge struck him between the middle and ring finger.
It split him in half, up to the palm, and then kept going.
The blade pushed through his arm, splitting it into two parts which peeled away and folded in opposite directions,
till the Diamond Edge crunched against his elbow and turned inward with a thrust.
Pyrik cried out in pain and leaned backwards.
He tried anything. Anything he could do to avoid the Diamond Edge which was pointed at his face.
The blade struck him in the eye and ripped it right out of the socket.
It caught on his forehead and dug into his skull, opening a deep gash.
"Larry, get back," Mara's voice reached him at last.

Only... he couldn't.
He saw it. The enemy. His other eye was glowing red.
Pyrik knew he was dead. He knew he was already defeated. He had lost.
But if there was one thing he could do it was this;
He was going to obliterate Mara Raiev.
If she was gone then maybe Ralter would have a chance.
With his dying breath, the only thing he could do, was stop Mara Raiev.

Larrington dashed forward. He put his palms out in front.
He crossed his hands over each other.
His fingers intersected, forming a sort of structure like a mesh wire.
He threw himself between the two, doing his best to avoid being nicked by the Diamond Edge.
And his hand went in front of that red eye. To cover it.
He felt warmth beneath his hand as a radiant surge arose from within Pyrik.
It was the very last of has mana. All being expelled in one burst.
Then the spotlight shined in the space between Larrington's intersecting fingers.
The beams split.
They fired in all directions.
Past his shoulder.
One nearly striking Mara.
The other hit the floor between their feet.
And the other... the other.... right in his face... it...
Larrington let out a gasp as red hot light struck him right in the brain.
He was knocked off his feet.

Larrington landed in the grass.
It was soft here. Not at all like the dungeon.
Where was he?
Larrington sat up. Oh. It was the Estate.
Why was he back in the Estate?
He got to his feet and walked around the grounds for a bit.
Everyone here seemed so dull. So empty.
It wasn't fun. There weren't any real people with passion.
They weren't like the ones he had met since coming to the dungeon.
Was this the life he was doomed to live? That of a gray ghost in a gray world?
That was the life he had lived up until now.
Anxiety, regret, it all began to creep in on him from all sides.
And he was trapped inside of that memory, that regret, with no escape.
No escape until-

Someone was shaking him.
Larrington gasped and then began choking.
His eyes darted around the dark corridor.
Something was holding him by the shoulders.
Not a person, but... rather... a shadow.
"Hey. Are you alright?" she asked.

He'd do things differently if he made it back home.
The Memory would not become his Reality.

[Larrington's Class has changed to Reborn]

Since this ended up being fairly long I decided the rest of the update can come later today.

Dee goes to investigate the Great Compass.
It appears to be pointing directly South.
There is a switch here which can be applied to switch the direction of the compass.
"Hmm.." Dee examines the switch. She's not sure if she can press it.
Within moments she is joined by Short.
"Hello, Dee," he says. "I have a question to ask you."
Dee, if she could sweat, would begin sweating nervously here. But she cannot do that.
Maybe she started dripping all over the table the compass was set on. Maybe.
"What is it?" Dee asks.
"You lived inside of that tank for a while, didn't you?" Short inquires.
That wasn't the kind of question Dee expected from the Demon. "I did," she'll answer.
Short nods to himself. "Did you ever notice there was an empty tank in there? With an impression in it?"
Dee remembered that tank, yes. The fourth one in the research lab.
It had an impression where a human sized figure could rest.
"That was supposed to be my tank," Short goes on.
"If this lab hadn't been shut down,"
"If that fucking cockroach head researcher hadn't been stopped,"
"You and I would have been neighbors."

"Oh." Dee nods. "Okay."

Short smiles. "Wouldn't that have been nice?"
He slams his hand down on the table, flipping the switch.
There is a small burst of light coming from Door 8, which then fades.

The Light Beyond Door 8 Has Changed From Blue To Red

Grigorov and Lionel both move to investigate that same door.
"Hey, good job guys," Lionel will say to them with a completely clueless expression.
He has no idea of the mounting tension between the two. "It seems you uncovered something."

The Goblin and the Tai Chi warrior enter the room of their own accord.
What they find on the other side is the Recall Room.

The foe in here is a Phantasmic Fencer, an apparation who seems to create psionic constructs.
Within moments Grigorov and Lionel find themselves surrounded by literally the ghosts of their past.
"Master... Ni Moy..." Lionel's mouth hangs open wide.
But there's very little time as the phantom comes rushing at him with a curved sword.
"Watch out!" Grigorov warns.
Lionel needed no warning, however.
Whether the opponent was his Master or anything else, it didn't matter.
His body moved on its own.
Lionel sprung into the air and vaulted away from the attack.
He landed in a bed of flowers.
His feet were so light that he didn't disturb a single petal.
Only, at that moment, he found himself attacked from all sides by more glowing apparitions.
"What are-... These-?!" Lionel spun, readying his blade, and tried to fend off the opponents.
"Those are my nieces and nephews," Grigorov shouted to him.
"Why don't you look after them for me? I'll..."
Grigorov ran at Master Ni Moy. Then, at the last moment, he pump faked and dashed around the opponent.
Keeping low to the ground he found himself bursting forward at a faster speed than ever before.
His ground speed must have increased by at least 40 or 50 per cent!
He realized the Ganthian Half-Mail he was wearing had begun to glow at the charka points.
Radiant energy surged from within him.
Ah, so this was Willpower!

The Phantasmic Fencer was ready for his approach.
Master Ni Moy was chasing Grigorov from behind.
He spun through the clearing and drew his wrench and the hammer he had picked up.
Dual wielding was not something he had ever tried before, but...
With this special armor on he felt like both of his arms were strong enough to hold a weapon without getting tired.
He felt like his reflexes and his accuracy improved enough not to make any mistakes!

Lionel darted left and then right.
His blade danced through the flower garden like a pen, and formed streaks of steel in the air.
The opponents who came at him from all sides were no match for his sword.
Then he cartwheeled away and launched himself into the air after Master Ni Moy.

Ni Moy, sensing his approach, turned to face his student.
He smiled. This wasn't him. It was only the memory of him.
A manifestation of light... given conscious form...
It raised its sword. It knew all of his moves.
That was the Gentle Brook Flowing Beneath a Bridge stance. Lionel knew it.
He fell upon the opponent and twisted away from the attack with ease.
His body bent in the air with trained flexibility from doing lots of yoga and not eating too many donuts.
And then his own Tai Chi sword fell upon the memory of his former master!
The phantom scattered to pieces and vanished [3].

[The Student has become the Master]
[Lionel's Class changed to Master]

Grigorov swung with his hammer and then his wrench.
The opponent moved to parry the first strike.
He was panicking, though. He had to summon more apparitions to slow these guys down.
But how could he? They tore through his last army like it was nothing!
And he couldn't concentrate on summoning while being attacked.
All he could do was-

CRUNCH!

The wrench came second and struck him in the temple, splitting his mask.
Blood began to leak out freely. Then... he collapsed [3].

Grigorov lowered his guard and examined the room.
It was like some kind of garden remove from space and time itself.
The place looked very beautiful when it wasn't filled with enemies.
But just... "What was going on in here exactly?"

Lionel studied his own sword, and then looked back to Grigorov.
He could only shrug. Who could say what this type of room was used for?

Back in the main compass room, Sunday will join the others near the table.
"Where do you think the blue light leads to? I bet it's somewhere different than the red one..."
Nobody seems to have a clear answer to her.
Dee, feeling awkward at the presence of Short, moves away from the table.
Short, who is only here to follow Dee, follows her.
For that reason Sunday is left alone.
A moment later, M will come to join her.
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop earlier but I thought I heard you say something," M will casually bring it up.
Best to be casual in this kind of situation. "Princess Lake... you called her... Starlight, didn't you?"

"Oh, that's right," Sunday mutters. "I've been told many times before."
"She's not Starlight. She's not the real Starlight. She's not the real thing."
"Sorry, I kept forgetting. I just wanted to meet her so badly."

M feels even more confused than she did before. "Can you explain to me what you mean?"

"It shouldn't be too complicated," Sunday says. She seems happy to explain.
"In the place where I come from there was a person named Starlight. She was loved by everyone there."
"Um... you went to school, didn't you?" Sunday asks.

School was a place for idiots. But yes, M had gone there. For a while, anyway. She nods.

Sunday closes her eyes. "Think of Starlight as the most popular girl in school who was loved by all."

M thought of the most popular girl at her own school.
That girl wasn't actually loved by everyone. There were a few who probably didn't like that girl.
But M got the general idea.
Assuming there were no social outcasts in Sunday's school, then this Starlight was probably very popular indeed.

"Anyway, Starlight doesn't exist anymore. But she does exist. She lives on through someone else."
Sunday goes on. "The one you know as Princess Lake is actually Starlight. But she's not really Starlight."
"That should make sense, right?"

Well, no, that was even more confusing than ever.
And how the hell did this clueless girl know so much?
M began chewing on her thumb nervously. She hated this feeling.

Gorbachev clomps over to Door 7 and knocks on it a few times.
"Come on in! The door's open!" a voice replies from inside [2].
Well, Gorbachev did not expect it to be so easy.
He waltzes into what appears to be a small library of some kind.
"Forgive me, Sir Knight," the man inside replies humbly.
He hobbles over.
But when he comes into the light Gorbachev sees... it's a Foot.
As in, the librarian is just a giant talking Foot.
Foot goes on, "I wasn't told that more guests would be arriving so soon."
Foot mutters to himself. "And I've only had two thousand years to prepare!"
"Sorry if the place is a mess. Is Lady Ishiene doing well?"

"Um..." Gorbachev doesn't say anything. He looks around the library.
There's a shelf with some Books on it.
Then again, this Foot is a pretty interesting thing as well.
Finding himself weighed down by action paralysis, and armor that is perhaps a bit too heavy,
Gorbachev stands there and deliberates his course of action.

Luna proceeds down the western passage and finds another braching path [2].

Vendrix will enter the library behind Gorbachev.
"Oh my, and you've brought a Dragon as well," Foot exclaims.
Vendrix smiled. He liked this guy.
Uh... this Foot.

Torun enters the library last. But there isn't much else to do here.
He finds himself standing around awkwardly behind the others.

Remulel decides to go off exploring on his own, as he had done before.
It seemed to be working out well so far.
The passage to the east leads to a sloping track.
He ends up descending downward until he reaches a big open area with a mud pit on the far side.
Then, out of the mud, a Mud Golem springs to life.
Without warning it lunges at him in a sudden attack.
For a giant sized creature over ten feet tall it moves surprisingly fast!
Moving with grace and power, Remulel rolls to the side and slashes.
The arm of his foe is severed and goes flying across the room [3].
It splatters against the wall, leaving a mud stain.
The enemy collapses and slinks back into the mud pond.

"Hm.." Remulel doesn't say anything.
Then, just about as expected, the Mud Golem rises out of the mud again.
This time it was twice as big, and had created a few extra arms for itself.
Should he call for back-up, or...?

Aron goes over to Door 9 and then pees on it.
After that he'll make his best effort to push the door open.
Surprisingly, there's not much of a mechanism holdin it closed.
Unfortunately there is another kind of mechanism. A trap [1].
As the door swings open a vat full of acid drops down from above.
It's connected to two wires.
And when the wires reached their full length the vat tips and acid sprays all over the area right in front of the door.
For the second time, however, Aron is saved by an ally..
It's Carl, who had been coming over to assist the dog.
He grabs Aron and pulls him away from the radius of the trap [3]!

Carl squats down and pets Aron Rex. "Be careful, little guy..."
They'll proceed through the door together.
They find a Stone Bust of an Important Man in here.
Plus, further ahead, another series of passage ways that lead further into the Labyrinth.
Yes... it was becoming clear now.
Above was the Keep. That was just a normal place.
Now, below, they were actually in the Labyrinth.
To put it another way... everything up till now had been child's play.
The real dungeon actually was only starting just now.
Carl nervously swallowed a lump in his throat and waited to see just what might happen next.

Carwen follows Luna down Passage Q.
"Did you find anything nice?" Carwen asks.
Luna turns around and gives her a hollow look. "It's a branching passage. Does it look nice to you?"
Well... when she put it that way...

About the Refrain and Recall rooms.
Since the characters know how the compass works you can basically move freely between these rooms.
You don't have to waste actions flipping the switch or anything like that.
Meaning that anyone can investigate the garden,
Gorbachev and Lionel can get back and go check out whatever other area they want,
and anyone can go explore the Refrain room,
without any restrictions.

Just thought I'd make that clear since I notice sometimes players behave in a more constrained way than they need to.

Sidenote; No problem, JeffRaze. You had been pretty active up until now and mentioned you wouldn't have access for a few days. Obviously I wouldn't kill someone for inactivity in that kind of circumstance!

As Vendrix is approaching door 7 he is suprised to hear someone answer Gorbachev's knock, with a rather polite invitation to come inside. Obviously interested in what lays beyond the door, Vendrix will venture inside. It is apparent rather fast that 1.This place is a library. What else could it be with rows upon rows of books layed across the place, and 2. The 'person' that invited them is actually a foot. As if Vendrix wasn't suprised yet, the Foot, noticing his arrival will call out to him, referencing the fact that he is a dragon.

Vendrix, glad to see something that doesn't want to kill them in this place as well as meeting someone that knows what he is will head over to the Foot, interest piqued, intent on investigating this curious figure.

"This is a pleasant suprise, for once. Most things in this dungeon were intent on killing us..."

Dee doesn't quite know what to make of Short, and continues walking away. She will try to engage him in conversation along the way to the Mud Golem room, where she will assist Remulel in fighting it.

Yeah, this passage looked real nice. If your definition of nice was A WHOLE LOT OF FUCKING NOTHING. Like geeze, who built this dungeon anyway? Why would you even do something like this? Well, better play this at least kinda safe. It'd just suck to get lost in here. So Luna will take a quick moment to mark the ground with her axe, indicating the direction she came from. You know, just in case she gets turned around or forgets. Without any regard to whether it might confuse other people.

Then she'll continue on down Passage S with minimal regard for Carwen

the gate from Heaven to Earth was opened again, reversing the effect of life/death and fate

the cycle is Pangaia -> Heaven -> Hell

but the gate to Heaven was closed for a really, really long time

souls which went to heaven would basically bounce off and be sent right to hell

so for a while it was essentially Pangaia -> Hell

now that the gate is open again, the cycle is back to normal. so;

1. humans are judged fairly and allowed into heaven or sent to hell accordingly. anyone who has played my games before knows that humans would traditionally go straight to hell no matter what. this is no longer the case.
2. demons which are slain after coming to pangaia are punished and purged in heaven. demons previously had the ability to reincarnate because 'death' would always send them back to their home world. this is no longer the case.
3. angels who are slain in heaven are sent to hell and taken prisoner, but angels who come to pangaia and die rebound -- right back to heaven. this gives them the reincarnation properties that demons previously had.

opening the gate essentially gives a huge power boost to angels and shifts the dynamic drastically. it's essentially the act of declaring war on demons which is not something they can handle right now. there's already an open gate on catharsis which leads right into hell from pangaia and the fairies are invading from this point, but it also means that the demons can't even afford to send anyone to pangaia the normal way because if they get killed they will be sent to heaven and purged.

the only benefit is that demons who are killed defending the gate, as long as they are on the hell side, are moved to the next tier (which is pangaia). from here they actually have a second chance to try and reach the gate again without dying. although it's difficult since the bulk of the faerie forces are stationed here. you can basically assume there are demons hiding all over pangaia right now, trying not to get killed, because they fear being sent to heaven and purged.
