Layden calls the Switch "a great success for Nintendo" and admits that "it's definitely what that fanbase has been waiting for." But he sees the system as less a rival than a complementary traveler, claiming that Switch sales have had no discernible impact on the sell-through for PlayStation 4. "When you look at our numbers, I think it shows that a lot of gamers are a two-console family," he adds. "And quite often those two consoles are PlayStation and Nintendo sitting side-by-side."

Seems even easier to justify now considering that Switch is gonna be the only place to play new Nintendo games eventually.

Starting from the end of this year I'm pretty sure if you own a PC, PS4 and Switch you won't miss out on anything.

The Switch is a useless piece of garbage. The last decent Nintendo console was the Gamecube.

well my wii u is next to my ps3. my ps4 is next to my receiver

my main reason for wanting a ps4 over an xbox one though is games. None of the high exclusives but otherwise niche games from japan that xbox just doesn't get. like say the super robot wars games

I've been a Nintendo/Playstation owner since the PS1/N64, only skipping the Wii U. They really do pair well together. Nintendo has enough IPs and exclusives to make their console worth it, and PS4 has their own good exclusives as well as playing the multiplats. I mean unless you're really crunched on money, having both is probably the best way to console game. Xbox doesn't offer much anymore, and soon you could just invest in a gaming PC and get the same games.

I agree with the statement. Started with Nintendo with the NES and once the PlayStation line came out, I always paired the two companies. Always buy Nintendo for the 1st party games and exclusive 3rd party, and PlayStation for their 1st party and all multiplats between the PlayStation and Xbox. Unfortunately for me the Xbox exclusives were never a big draw for me, so I always felt my collection was complete without one. I do use a PC for the PC exclusives that interest me that are not available for the PlayStation or Nintendo systems.

It is probably very true that there is a much larger number of people with Xbox as their only dedicated console compared to people with PS4 or Switch as their only dedicated console.

It's true for me. Been so since PS1 and SNES.

Though I still think it's too early to call the Switch a success. As a person who bought two Switches obviously I want it to do well, but Nintendo's track record keeps me rather pessimistic.

Mostly this, but the idea of having some of those multiplats in portable form is tempting too. I know I re-bought Minecraft for the Switch when it came out.

My family/friends are mostly on the Xbox side of things rather than Playstation, but I do agree with the point of this topic. Nintendo's systems are better off as a compliment to another system than as a primary system itself. Their exclusives and the Switch's portability are their main two niches in the market.
