After a period of moving around 47,000 units a week and still selling out everywhere in Japan, Nintendo Switch sales have recently shrunk to a paltry 26,000 units for the past few weeks. The low supply and high demand is creating a desperate situation for consumers. Today photographs were taken of people literally lining up around the block to enter a lottery for the mere chance to purchase a Switch.

This first location had a grand total of 37 units to sell.

It prints money, but evidently not for making more supply. It amazes me how many Nintendo things have small supply when they can easily afford to produce way more than they put out

I'll never understand the "must buy right now" crowd

Is some kind of gift-based holiday coming up?

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

It's been out for 3 months, maybe people want to play Zelda now who waited before? Or are looking forward to Splatoon/ARMS

"The problem is an industrywide capacity shortage for components used in smartphones, computer servers and other digital devices. These include the NAND flash-memory chips that store data, liquid-crystal displaysand [Linear Resonant Actuators]the tiny motors that enable the Switch’s hand-held controllers to imitate the feel of an ice cube shaking in a glass.

“Demand for our NAND flash memory has been overwhelmingly greater than supply, and the situation is likely to stay for the rest of this year,” said a spokeswoman at Toshiba Corp., the troubled industrial giant that is leaning on flash memory to survive. She cited demand from smartphone makers—Apple and Chinese companies are among Toshiba’s customers—and data centers."
