Alien Aliens Alien 3 Alien: Resurrection Prometheus Alien: Covenant Alien vs Predator Alien vs Predator Redux View Results Been rewatching the collection recently and it's incredibly how much Alien and Aliens hold up. Especially Alien which is a textbook case of "They don't make movies like this anymore." like 30 minutes of Alien is just a slow build of atmosphere and tension before anything even happens. I also I forgot just how bad Alien 3 is. All of the flack Resurrection and Prometheus gets seems so bizarre to me when you compare it to Alien 3. But does CE agree? What do you think? Also it's funny how the plot of every single Alien's movie from the original all the way to Prometheus is centered around the core of the crew being complete idiots who make terrible decisions and do stupid things. The first film especially, the slow build was fantastic. Aliens has less tension but I still like the build. The point about the soliders was to build the frustration among Ripley and the knowing audience that the marines are so full of themselves and confident when they have no idea what they are getting themselves into and are lambs heading to slaughter. It's also needed to show Ripley's development, she chose to go on the trip out of fear and closure. Then she sat back and first but when shit hit the fan she chose to get involved and ended up saving the day. By the end of the movie she's an action hero and it's still consistant with being just a random woman in Aliens 1. I much prefer the slow build to the modern day just throw explosions and action. If the movie had started and Ripley + the marines were having firefights with exploing aliens 14 minutes in then the movie would be at best medicore. The slow-burning intro in the sequel had no business being that long; the viewer already knows what the aliens look like, and knows exactly what the crew is going to find there. I've had several people rave to me about the Agent 9 recut, which apparently edits the film to be more coherent while adding in some of the better deleted scenes from the Blu-Ray. Think about it, The entire plot of Aliens stems from no one questing Ash, Kane sticking his fat fingers and face in the alien egg despite finding corpses earlier and being alone. Dallas completely ignoring quarantine procedures because he doesn't feel like it. Followed by all the repeated times they split up. Hell in Aliens the fact that the marines are idiots especially Hudson and Gorman is literally part of the plot and Burke isn't far behind. And let's not even touch on 3 or Resurrection where everyone is an idiot including Ripley. I've had several people rave to me about the Agent 9 recut, which apparently edits the film to be more coherent while adding in some of the better deleted scenes from the Blu-Ray. I kindly thank you for alerting us to the existence of this. It's worth noting that pretty much every Aliens movie has an extened additional "Directors/special cut" that is considered better than the original. Although IMO i still think the original Alien version is better than the directors cut. IF you don't like the lore and slow build and just want fun dumb hollywood movie it's the best one in that regard. Movies need plot, and Prometheus was just something that was kinda pretty and rambled adjacent to some ideas/themes, but from a plot standpoint it's not clear why any of the characters acted how they did. The plot was trash.
