rent is 650 for everything (super cheap for downtown Toronto), not sure what the place looks like yet but I can bring my cat (as long as he gets along with the other cats they have anyway). i currently live with my mom, but was planning to move out with my sister even before i got this offer.

should i go for it? this would also be my first time living on my own/with roommates.

Go for it . Live your life.

Personally I hate room mates. But if that is the best you can do , don't worry about it.

Roommates are terrible. If you have the opportunity to live with your sister, and you get along well enough, then do that.

fyi my sister currently lives with my mom too, so we'd be finding our own place, i wouldn't be moving into her place. also even if we do move out we'd probably find a third person because it's so much cheaper.

why are roommates so bad? does it change if they're people i already know and like?

For me it is not them changing , it is having to conform and work with someone else. If I am paying I don't want to compromise. If I want to play my Tuba naked at 3 AM I can. If I had Roommates I couldn't.

So there is issues with working with others, and freedom to do what you want to do. And they could do stuff that annoys you too.

If you haven't moved out before, I'd say go for it. You can always go home, but this is probably an awesome opportunity for you. I know it was intimidating when I first moved out, but honeslty, it's really not such a big deal once you are out there, and it can be a helluva lot of fun, especially if you are still young enough to party with friends.

$250-300 a month is really cheap for rent + bills. around here it's $600 for most 1 bedroom apartments. as long as you like them and they're reliable i'd go for it. preferably if nothing is in your name so if things don't work out you don't have to worry about anything.

Jesus Christ, Toronto is cheap. I pay 1,000 a month for a 1 bedroom basement suite I share with my wife here in Sask.

living with roomates is a downgrade in relation to just living with your parents unless you actually NEED to move somewhere else.

live by yourself or with your SO, otherwise there's no fucking point.

People act different when you live with them. It's fun at first but the situation can quickly change, especially when money is involved. Do you have a bad relationship with your mom? I agree with Link HT, moving in with roommates is a downgrade; don't do it unless you have to or need to get away from where you're currently living.

seriously? that kinda sucks. my mom doesn't mind me living with her, but i guess i'd rather be on my own just because i'm turning 27 soon and feel like i'm already really behind on being independent.

those are our own opinions and you're free to disagree

I personally never saw a point in moving out until I could live on my own, it just seemed like a waste of money. I'd be living in worse conditions in pretty much every single way and paying for it. Other than being less awkward when you bring girls home, there was literally no upside.

You may grow to resent your friends after living with them. Just keep that in mind.
