Reminds me of a few years back on here when online passes were at their peak. This debate happened quite a lot.

But no, it's not as simple as that. Firstly, some of the cash generated by used games (for gamers and game stores alike) goes towards new games. Secondly, there's also DLC nowadays. I imagine a lot of pirated games either include DLC or don't support it at all.

A used game sitting in a store in Texas isn't going to be readily available to a man in New York.

If copy A of "Super Awesome Game 2" has already been paid for, then the company got their money. You can now sell that disc off to anyone you like because it is now your property.

If copy B of "Super Awesome Game 2" hasn't been paid for, and you take it, the company hasn't received money. It's not your property, and you're a thief.

Now when it comes to digital games, even purchasing via Steam, you don't really "own" the game. You purchase the right to download and play that game any time for the rest of your life or at least until that platform stops existing. If you don't pay for it though, you don't get that right, and you're still a thief. Or rather, a pirate, as they so like to call themselves.

Eh, I suppose the person that buys a game second hand is no better than a pirate to the creator, as both people are obtaining a copy of the work without giving anything back to the creator, but at least there was an original sale behind it.

Pirating is only good imo when no one is playing them anymore so if you really wanted to play it in the future you don't have to shill out $100 for a game that likely wasn't that good to begin with
