This is who I thought of. I don't necessarily think Lickitung is the most forgettable of gen 1, but definitely is the one I most often forget came from gen 1.

Tangela is up there for sure. I honestly don't think about Sandshrew a lot (although it did have at least one whole episode dedicated to it in the original TV series). Rhyhorn is lame. Marowak kinda sucks too.

Came in to say Tangela, then already saw that he got two nods. He's the most forgettable by far. He has a weird design, he's found in a weird place, and he serves no real good use. He doesn't evolve (until gen 4 anyway, which I bet most people forgot), he doesn't get featured in like anything. He's not used in any game gym and, as far as I can remember, he's never even used by a game trainer,

He's also not so stupidly awful to be memorable for that, like Dunsparce is. He's just a completely forgettable Pokemon.

Another contender might be Seaking. Most people remember Goldeen fine and you can find a lot of trainers with it. However, I had forgotten what Seaking even looked like when I caught one in the LG safari.

If you play pokemon competitively at all you might actually be rather familiar with tangela and its evo as I am, they are great pokemon, to the point of unevolved tangela being used in the lower tiers

honestly for me the fact that dunsparce is so unremarkable is why he's so memorable.

thing is the very fact that you came in to say those pokemon proves that they aren't that forgettable, the truly most forgettable pokemon is as this topic is meant to show, the one people wont even remember when asked to share unmemorable pokemon

Few things:

1) Tangela isn't competitively used for anything, near as I can tell. He's listed as NU in Smogon for every generation except for PU which is the lowest recognized tier.

2) Tangrowth is apparently popular as of the last two gens, but this is about Tangela as noted. Tangela likely only got an evo at all because he was a completely forgettable one-off Pokemon who never served any use.

3) Naming a forgettable anything does not by virtue of being named make it popular. That's a silly paradox which would exclude anything from being forgettable.

4) This is about gen 1, which is broadly the most memorable generation. The least-remembered gen 1 is better remembered than a midcard from later generations. (And, frankly, I didn't immediately remember he had an evolution at first.) Compare this to me playing Pokemon Go and spotting a Hoppip and thinking, "Oh yeah, that was a thing," without really remembering its name, etc.

Omg so clever! Good thing nobody thought to google "original 151 pokemon" and then list off a few that triggered an "oh yeah! that thing really is a piece of shit. I forgot about that one" or anything. Nobody on the internet uses the internet.

Huh. A surprising pick given that it's Blaine's marquee Pokemon in the anime and heavily appeared in the games. Not to mention that it notably shares Charmander's tail, making it memorable just for that.

Oh, so she does. I guess that's a testament to how forgettable it is. I mostly remember her for Gloom/Vileplume.

I would forget Paras if he wasn't so common in Go. Bellsprout and Oddish are common in the games themselves.
