Here in Florida they like to keep the original Indian names, so like half the places here are unpronouncable to people who don't live there

I grew up in one of the 14 Rochesters in the US. They are all named after Rochester, Kent, England of course. I also lived in Kent, another name stolen from England.

They even named an entire state after a country (Georgia)

What is the deal with all that?

My wife was born in Lebanon, Indiana.

Here in Ohio I live in Lima, and close by we have Cairo and Russia... They are all pronounced differently than the city or country they are named after, though... Lima with an "I" like "lime," Cairo like Care-oh and oddly Russia is Rooshy. Never understood that last one, they others at least make sense based on spelling.

like, according to wikipedia, there's 25 different Springfields.

that's just freaking weird

Not as bad as calling an entire region "New England"

Like, wasn't there this whole thing where they didn't want to be Englandians anymore and even did a war over it? The naming convention doesn't make any sense.

There's this thing in the Bay Area where a lot of the streets have the same names as the surrounding cities. It can get pretty confusing.

"Yo dawg I'm at Fremont in San Francisco."
"Wtf man where you at?"

Also there are two exits with the exact same street name on the freeway near me and they're only about 5 minutes apart. So I tell someone to exit onto [redacted] St. from interstate [redacted] and half the time they end up in the wrong damn city.
