I don't understand how some of those malls still operate with only a handful or so businesses still in operation. It seems like they'd be hemorrhaging money on the property tax alone.

Also it's pretty cool, I never even realized malls would remain open like that with just a few stores.

One of our local malls is prerty much dead. There's a Gamestop, like three LIDS, a nail salon and a bunch of cell phone kiosks. At any given time theres's about 20 cars in the parking lot.

I remember as a kid the lots wrapping around it would be packed.

Have you seen his videos? I'm just curious how the mall looks compared to some of those.

Some of them are really nasty and rundown with blood stains in the elevator and the ceiling collapsing in (and there are still open shops there), and others have like six stores and a fast food restaurant and still have a bunch of "lease today!" and social media advertisements for the mall even though you know it's on its way out.

At this point wouldn't it be wiser to cut your losses and close up shop?

Well it seems like some of the stores, like Sears or JC Penney, are staples that people still go to and somehow that generates enough business for the other four shops there.

I see some of these places and I wish I had the money to buy them and convert them to mid-to-high end residential complexes.

The mall near me is still fairly active, but a bunch of shops have closed up. Not enough for me to say it looks dead, but it's definitely dying. I don't expect it to still be around in 10 years since most people just go to the mall to hang out instead of buy things.

There were actually two malls near me (they were like 3 miles away from each other) but the other one closed down about 15 years ago. It was the mall that had Service Merchandise and Montgomery Ward.

The mall that is still open has Sears and JC Penny. I figure once Sears goes belly up, it will die pretty soon after that.

I'm also not too far from the mall in Bradley, Illinois and it's pretty much dead. Me and my friend took a trip out there cause we were bored a few weeks ago and like the fountains are filled with dirt and there were only a handful of stores still open and the food court was completely empty except for a lone A&W Root Beer shop.
