So pretty much, my wife's sister is a selfish, self centered bitch who has a 5 year old, 4 year old, and a 18 month old. First thing she does when she seats them all in the car is light a cigarette, crack her window like 2 inches, and goes on her way. It floods the car with cigarette smoke, for all the kids to sit there and breathe in against their will.

I finally told her yesterday, which has caused some drama in the family, that it disgusted me and she's selfish that it's more important to her to fill her lungs with smoke than considering her own children's health, and she's mouthing off about me now like i'm the bad guy. She also smoked half a pack a day through 2 of 3 pregnancies.

Where is the line? If a cop pulls over a mother with kids in the car that has a lit cigarette in her hand, shouldn't that be grounds for at least a fine?

What an asshole. I'm a smoker myself, and i absolutely agree with tc. You don't force kids or anyone to inhale smoke. Its fucking common sense. Smoking while being pregnant is so irresponsible that her kids should be taken away from her, because she pretty much proved she's horrible mother. If you can't quit cigs befofe pergnancy, don't get fucking pregnant.

If it's illegal to smoke within 20 feet of a store entrance because a random passerby may breath it in, then it sure as shit should be illegal in a car full of kids.

Some places it is illegal. Here in Saskatchewan for example. I love seeing people standing outside their car in the winter in -30 weather, finishing their cigarette before getting into the car.

It is here and I fully agree with it. You shouldn't be exposing children to that **** in such a confined space.

Not just when they're present and not just the car. Anywhere pregnant women and children will normally be should be clear of all forms of cigarette smoke, including third hand smoke. You're only solving part of the problem if you're keeping them away from second hand smoke some of the time but subjecting them to third hand smoke for much longer periods of time.

As a smoker I mostly agree but it should be for kids under 12.

Yes. I have some minor breathing issues and I blame that on the fact that my parents smoked a couple of packs a day my whole childhood. They wouldn't listen if you asked them to crack a window in the car or smoke outside at home, and I started asking them to do that at a young age.

And it gets the car dirty as fuck. My current car used to be a rental car earlier in its life. When I first got it I had to clean all of the upholstery on the seats and so much yellow crap came off because of cigarette smoke. Nasty.

Natural tobacco? Weed? Crack the window and don't be an ass and it should be okay, they aren't going to get cancer or anything.

If its really young babies you might want to be extra cautious though, so... maybe?

Definitely should be illegal. I can't stand it when someone lights up a cigarette in front of a store or restaurant that I am about to go in. I really wish tobacco companies would plummet off the face of the Earth, but I know that would have large economic consequences.
