Do you think he should foot the bill?

19 y/o Shadrach Yasiah from Nebraska faces up a $10,000 BILL after he plowed onto a newly poured concrete!!

He drove through a 24 gap between traffic control cones and ended up getting his blue Honda Civic stuck on fresh cement..

Police said it occurred on a portion of a road repair project and that they WON'T cite the 19 y/o driver because they said it wasn't obvious that the concrete wasn't dry.

But city engineer, Thomas Shafer disagrees sand said HE is responsible for the repairs and estimated it would cost 10,000 or more to pay to remove his car and scraping out the ruined slurry, repouring more cement and finishing it.

He said the cement was probably less than 30 minutes old" when he drove on it and says "it was really not set up in a manner or fashion for a vehicle and they sunk up to the axles in it"

Police said it took more than 2 hours to get it out and slowed traffic..

Shadrach apparently tried to force a shortcut and cut through the closed lane to get out of traffic...

Do you think he should foot the bill? let's see what people think

Depends how the pylons were set up when he tried to drive past them. If they obviously indicated "don't use this lane," then any damages arising from his attempt to use that lane are 100% his fault, regardless of whether or not he could see an obvious reason to have the lane blocked off. If there was enough of a gap to suggest that the lane might have been usable, then he can't really be faulted for trying to use it, and the crew should do a better job in the future of segregating their work site from the active road.

At least from the pictures, it looks like there's a large gap for a car to turn, which is pretty common when road work is being done. So it really depends on whether or not there are orange columns under the car that he ran over, or if someone forgot to put the columns up. If the police didn't cite him, that probably means he didn't run over any columns, in which case the workers screwed up.

"Traffic cones? What are those?"

Fuck this idiot. This was a good lesson for him and he absolutely should pay. Someone's going to have to pay not just for more cement, but extra labor as well, because of his dumbass.

It depends if he thought he could make a U turn there still or something. Sometimes they do road construction but have the cones spaced so you can still turn right or left into businesses and sometimes they aren't marked clearly. This is probably a case where it could go either way depending on facts. If it wasn't really clearly marked the city engineer should train the construction workers to better mark their work. If the kid was just be an asshole then I think it'd be fair for him to have to pay.

That's a dumb argument.

It's like those parents letting their kids swim in Disney waters because it wasn't obvious that it had gators in it.

How is that a dumb argument? If the construction people had done their jobs correctly and spaced out the pylons it wouldn't even be an issue.

Just like if they had proper signage up at disney, like they do now, those kids wouldn't have been swimming there.

I would agree, except we don't know that's the issue here. And traffic cones are proper signage. Isn't the fact that no one else was driving in that lane despite the traffic jam a good enough indicator?

All I see is another asshole driver who thinks that road laws don't apply to him like they do everyone else. His selfishness and stupidity cost not only the people who are working on and paying for those road repairs, but everyone else who is running late because the police and a road crew had to get this dipshit out of the way.

You can't be serious.

They had to add more traffic barriers to direct traffic around the vehicle getting the moron out of the cement.

That's in the later pictures, the first one had a large gap in between the two sets of cones, It was clearly right after it happened because cars are still rolling next to him.

I like how you guys just wanna create this narrative that he's an asshole driver and was doing some crazy shit when he's already been cleared of wrongdoing by the police. The third party that has nothing to gain out of this by lying,

I doubt the biased engineer would ever have a reason to make someone else pay for the error of his workers so it doesn't fall on him.

You have the order of the pictures wrong. In the last picture where he's clearly being pulled out, you can see that there's only one set of cones. Also, you can literally see a worker carrying and moving one. In the first picture, you can also see that there is only one set of cones. So the order of the pictures goes 2, 1, 3.
