They close in 28 minutes. Would I be a dick if I ordered right now?

28 minutes is fine. They're there decently after closing anyway. The driver is probably scheduled past closing.

All right I'm ordering. I've heard of people ordering like 5 minutes before closing and the workers getting all pissed (which is understandable). I'm not sure how long before closing it's acceptable to put in an order but I think it's okay right now. Thanks guys

I haven't. But I understand the problems with making an order two minutes before closing.

With that said, if TC calling 25 minutes before closing is a problem, then maybe they should close at 12:30 instead of 1:00.

They should be taking order's until they close. Closing time should be when they stop taking orders, not 20 minutes before that.

Easy fix being to just make the closing time 30 minutes earlier.

If you're placing an order 30 minutes before closing, you're a dick.

The last hour of business is meant to be winding down for the day. Cleaning up, counting the drawer, etc. I've had friends work at places where the boss wanted them off the clock by fiteen minutes after close at the absolute latest. This meant either starting closing procedures in the last hour of business or staying behind and not getting paid.

Seriously, only children think that going into/ordering from a restaurant thirty minutes before close is okay.

No, children think they should get to stop working half an hour before the end of business hours. If you only want to take orders until 11:30, make that clear. Otherwise, you should be taking orders.

This is exclusively referring to take out/delivery. People who come into restaurants within half an hour of closing are scum.

I understand that they have to clean up and start closing the store, but if that's the case, why not just end order taking early like others have been saying? :/

That's really up to the discretion of the person taking the order. Although if it's an online order there's not much that can be done about that.

As long as you don't live too far away delivery shouldn't be an issue unless the driver is really busy close to closing (happened to me once where I got back half hour to closing and had a couple more orders). I'm pretty sure I once finished my deliveries at 1:30 but that's not common. Anyways a few times I had cooks decline orders around 1-2 minutes before closing time.

Some places do, but most don't. Businesses generally don't care about forcing their workers to stay late, often off the clock, if it means more money.

My rule is

30+ minutes before closing: no problem

15-30 minutes before closing: I apologize and leave a big tip

15 minutes or less before closing: I don't order

To me that's just common courtesy.

There's a lot of weird logic in this topic, if a place is open till 1 and I wanna order at 12:50 I'm gonna do it. If you don't want orders coming in that late then stop taking them 30 minutes before.

A lot of people just don't understand how common courtesy works.

"As long as I'm within the bare minimum required by the official rules, what's the problem?"

The point is that you should try to be kind, and considerate of other people. Yes, you are allowed to enter businesses and shop or order things as long as you get there before they close. BUT, if you go right up to the last minute, then you are forcing the people there to work later than if you didn't do that. Of course you don't have to do that, but if it's not a big deal then why wouldn't you come in earlier or go to a place that's open later?

If for some reason it is a big deal, and you have to go to a place right before it closes, at least you should feel bad about the fact that other people have to work longer because of your bad planning and act apologetic. Because you didn't have to go in right before closing. You chose to.

But a lot of people seem to not see why they should care about other people's feelings or that they should just take it for granted that no one should question or have a problem with their actions as long as they aren't officially prohibited by the rules.

It's hard to argue with this mentality because they clearly just have a different fundamental way of seeing the world compared to most people.

Where I work, servers are required to seat anyone who walks in before closing, even if it at 20:59:59, but All You Can Eat plates are not allowed to be ordered after 20:30. (We get people coming in at 20:59 wanting an AYCE quite often.)

We have one guy that I absolutely hate though... He arrives at 19:45, orders a side of corn, a side of fries, and an order of garlic bread. Total cost for his bill is about $7 with tax. He refuses to leave until 21:30... <_< We're not allowed to call the police until then. :(

A few people ITT can't seem to grasp the concept of unwritten rules in society and how things aren't always fair and logical like they would want them to be in their little fantasy land.

These are things that don't need to be spelled out, these are things you're expected to know, especially if you're an adult.

Yes these rules don't make sense. Yes it would be a better solution to make closing times earlier. But it's just the way things are and you're expected to roll with the system instead of flaunting your oh so rebellious pile of neck hair and going "welp, not mah fault if you don't like it!!!".

I'm all for not being a dick and trying to follow unwritten rules, but at the same time just throwing up your hands and perpetuating a system you readily acknowledge doesn't make sense is not really good either. You should try to not makes things harder for people while simultaneously working to change the situation so this nonsense doesn't come up in the first place. I will never understand why people just accept acknowledged inefficiencies/illogic in our society. Peace of mind, I suppose.
