Nice to know in America you can assault a reporter, be caught red-handed lying about it, and still get elected.

And this is the same guy who said Americans shouldn't retire because Noah was 600 when he built the ark.

America is ****ed.

Well, for one - an assault charge shouldn't affect your job choices.

But, heeeeeehhhhhhh

It was ridiculous seeing a bunch of round oaf conservative pundits on twitter yesterday calling the reporter a wuss for calling the cops after being assaulted.

If the reporter would've done his thing a few days earlier, before a lot of people voted, things may very well have been different. Because the Billings Gazette had a poll for their readers on whether this incident would've changed their vote, and 52% of the respondents said it would have.

He pretty much already won before the election because of absentee voters. If it had happened sooner, no he probably would not have won. But a senator being hit with a felony charge? This will be interested to watch.

When this whole thing came up, I mentioned to my wife about how we used to have senators duel each other to the death over things.

She said we shouldn't be going backwards.

I don't know, maybe if we let idiot politicians kill each other things would get done faster. And we get rid of some politicians.

A reporter isn't a politician though. He straight up performed aggravated assault.

I really hate how it's reported merely as "body slamming" when it's been verified by eye witnesses -- Fox News reporters of all people -- that after slamming the reporter (which I'm skeptical, but *could* have been in self defense of some sort), Gianforte then got on top of the reporter and repeatedly punched him, which is pretty blatant and severe assault and battery.
What a joke that he's only charged w/ one misdemeanor and it's questionable if he'll even go to jail! A normal person pulled that shit in front of witnesses, he'd get at least 5 years, no question.

I understand he won b/c a ton of early votes had already been cast, but it's disgusting that early voters who asked to change their vote were denied. That should not be. You should be able to submit a request to change a vote by the day of the election or earlier, specifically for cases like this.
Still wouldn't have helped if he had beaten someone up next week instead, but it'd at least close the time gap between early voting and actual end of elections.

EDIT: I forgot that he filed a false report of what happened. That should bring charges, too. But it won't. He's not even going to get jail time.

And can we forget that in NY a politician won election even after getting caught on camera threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony (which would be straight up murder, not just assault) for that reporter asking the guy's corruption case? And that his campaign slogan was basically "Innocent until proven guilty!"? And how he was proven guilty on those corruption shortly after winning his election and forced to vacate his seat since he had to go to a federal prison?

Not sure the number, but I've seen plenty of stories that at least some requested it. And were denied. And that's fucking crazy.

America has long lost it's way. Heck, they voted for a draft dodging president. I bet nobody saw that one coming in the waves and waves of military fanaticism.

As much as I am tempted to cite Trump's "I could shoot someone in the street and my supporters would stand by me" comment (imagine if a Democrat said that), yeah there's no telling if he'd have won if so many votes weren't absentee.

This is true. Granted, his career was permanently ended after being reportedly knocked out in a bar fight.

Pretty much every recent president either dodged the draft or was given a cushy assignment. The only real exceptions were generals.

Yes. This wasn't a duel. Are you going to point out anything else that's glaringly obvious?
