My opinion is the same as it ever was.

LeBron is the better athlete, Jordan is the better basketball player.

LeBron has a pretty good argument for being the best athlete ever through his ridiculous combination of speed, size, longevity, and durability. He's tough to compare to legendary athletes that I never saw with my own eyes like Jim Brown and Jim Thorpe, but I'm sure he's up there. He would be a great player in the NFL and probably MLB if that's what he chose, whereas we saw Jordan try and fail at another sport.

But in terms of pure basketball skills and ability, Jordan is #1. With another title LeBron is probably #2 though, he's basically tied with the likes of Bird, Magic, and Kareem right now.

I'm wondering who even challenges him for this distinction. LeBron could have been a world champion decathlete, but instead he decided to become one of the best basketball players to ever live. In terms of pure physical ability, I'm not sure anyone is on his level.

Lebron is a better defender, a better rebounder, an all-time elite passer, and he can play all five positions. Seven straight finals, often with sub-par rosters, is no joke. MJ is the best scorer ever, but all-around skill? Not even close.

Mj was the steals leader 3 times and has a lower turn over rate versus Lebron. Jordan also never had a dominant secondary scorer like Lebron has had. You can argue that it was a different game and that most teams didn't have the Super team make up back then but I would not be surprised if Jordan played today all his numbers (albeit including turnovers )went up.

Jordan won 6 straight titles and didn't need to play in a ridiculously watered down conference to do so.

i don't know who is the better player. there's still a discussion to be had about that. i think a perfectly crafted team with jordan would beat a perfectly crafted team with lebron, for what that's worth. i also don't think you can say lebron is a better defender or scorer

but without a doubt lebron is the most valuable player of all time

in order for a team to be a championship contender, you need the following ingredients:
1) lebron
and that's it.

he fits on any team with any makeup in any role

i would consider them the 2 greatest of all time by a long shot, so it hardly matters

Can't argue too much with the rest, but this I sorta disagree with. He didn't have a dominant secondary scorer, no, but he had a better team overall and was surrounded with more talent.

Joel Anthony won two straight titles and Charles Barkley didn't win any. Who's the better player?

There are plenty of reliable stats to judge a player's worth. The number of championships won is not one of them.

That was in response to you using seven straight finals appearances as a point in LeBron's favor...

Also saying he has often had a subpar roster in this 7 year run is ridiculous

It's not ridiculous. The concern about his Heat and Cavs teams has been depth since the run started. Wade, Bosh, Allen, Irving, and Love are good/great players, but his teams were and are jello without Lebron on the court.

But rosters and playoff runs are beside the point. Lebron is just a better basketball player than Jordan. Any team, any era, any conditions.

Lebron is not a better defender. Jordan was 1st team All-Defensive 9 times, including six in a row and all three years after coming back from baseball, along with DPOY in 1988. This was all in an era when defense was actually played. He led the league in steals 3 times and averaged 2.3 steals per game

Lebron is a better rebounder because of his size, absolutely. Definitely a better passer too. Saying he has a sub-par roster is a joke though, he's never won without two other all-stars on his team. Jordan never had a scorer as good as Wade or Irving.

Jordan is the GOAT

Yeah LeBron's aptitude as a defender is due to his size and athleticism. It's like a kid trying to score on his dad in the driveway a lot of times. Like his most renowned defensive trait is his chasedown blocks which is purely his insane athleticism. Jordan's ability is more grounded in technique and that's why he's better.

That's true. Jordan was seen as pretty much the peak of NBA athleticism before LeBron came along.

I remember an interview with Phil Jackson a few years ago where they asked him to compare Jordan and Kobe, and the first thing he brought up (and wouldn't stop raving about) was the size of Jordan's hands. Can't teach that!

anyway, I'd take Lebron over Jordan on D. Jordan was good, but backed up by Pippen who was the real defensive MVP. he could gamble on steals. Lebron has never had that. Wade, Bosh, Irving, Love -- good offensive players but not great defensive ones, not like Pippen or Rodman were.

I'm not punishing LeBron. Like I'm not saying he's all athleticism and no technique and vice versa for Jordan. It's more like, LeBron is a 10 in athleticism and a 5 in technique, and Jordan is a 9 in athleticism and 9 in technique so he grades out better.
