And in general, Charmander is better-looking and more useful than Totodile. Frankly, I'm surprised Totodile has lasted as long as he has.

Totodile was a decent concept that was horribly butchered by the physical/special distribution prior to gen 4. By the time it became usable power creep had rendered it completely outclassed, I almost feel sorry for it.

Plus if it had been added to a later gen, it probably would have received a second type. Water is one of the most over-saturated mono-types (probably second only to normal), made worse by the countless dual-types.

Granted, the character design would still be kinda meh.

Dual, not duel. And I'm also referring to evos, since most of the later starter Pokemon have an additional type for their final form (or even earlier, since Combusken, Monferno, and Pignite all pick up fighting). But yes, Bulbasaur and Rowlet are special for *starting* as duals and Rowlet is double special for that second type changing.

Of course, counting everything, Eevee is the most unique starter since it can turn into 5 things within its game.

Charmander is way cuter and his evolutions are way more useful, though. Evolution-wise, about the *only* time Feraligatr looked better than Charizard was in the trading figure game

I sure was.

If you define "starters" as the first form, then yeah you're right. Only Bulbasaur and Rowlet have two types.

But if you include their evos, then yeah far more of them have two types.

How do you define starters?

I'll just go ahead and settle this

Starters refers to the starter Pokémon, not its evolution. When somebody says starter Pokemon, they're talking about charmander, not charizard.

For the purposes of this poll, or which one you think is best, considering or not considering evolutions is your choice. If you want to vote charmander because you love charizard, that's your choice. I personally see each Pokemon as it's own thing. I do not take evolution into account when somebody asks, "Do you like growlithe?" Except for to say, "Yes but aracanine is way cooler."

Terrible.

I'll say it again, a starter Charmander is the same as a starter Charizard. The same doesn't apply to any random Growlithe and any random Arcanine. Those are general Pokemon, while starters are specific instances.

When Pikachu was in the poll I didn't factor in Pichu or Raichu, because the starter Pikachu could be neither of them. I didn't factor in Light Ball either, since it was introduced later. I wouldn't factor mega evolutions either, though I think they're available in ORAS for the Hoenn starters yeah?

It's not "terrible" it's just how I view things.

When your charmander evolves into charmeleon, you no longer have charmander. You used to, you don't anymore.

And here's Cole hating on NXT.
