I don't know how you compare a bitcoin to a not given amount of gold, but bitcoin fluctuates a lot. I wonder if you could buy bitcoin when it's cheap and sell when expensive.

Because Bitcoins are more liquid than gold, there's a much more limited supply(there will be a day when no more Bitcoins will be generated. This is by design). Also transactions with Bitcoins are anonymous, and unregulated, making them a more desirable currency than gold.
