Have been planning a trip to Korea with my mom who hasn't been back to her home country in over 20 years. She was initially really excited about it, but now she's worried that either Trump's going to start some shit with North Korea or something stupid like the travel ban that affected green card holders will prevent her from re-entry.

While I doubt she has anything to worry about (no way South Korea will be added to any travel ban list any time soon), having to convince her it's going to be okay has definitely made the trip planning a much less fun experience.

The CBO estimates that 23 million people will lose their insurance within 10 years if AHCA is enacted.
The bill also would let states request waivers for preexisting condition protections and Essential Health Benefit requirements and would give much less generous subsidies to most people, all to give close to a trillion dollars in tax cuts to the wealthy.

Made worse, if nothing else in terms of travel. After several Canadian women were barred entry from the country, I decided to play it safe and not leave the country for a while. Going to have to visit Canada soon for the wedding, of course, but that'll be my first trip out since he took office.

In terms of stuff he's done that directly impacts me or my interests...yes, there's a few.

For starters, I use the internet, I use the internet for health related concerns. Now my internet service provider (Comcast, ATT, or whoever I use for my internet) can collect this information, and sell it to the highest bidder:

I don't want my medical information to be for sale. I can take precautions like not using the internet, or going to internet cafes, but that's an enormous pain in the ass and makes my life worse.


There's a lot of stuff that's in-progress that would actively make my life worse that hasn't happened yet. Killing net neutrality for one.


Let me expand this a bit and go from talking about me to talking about my industry. I'm a videogame developer. Let's talk about the benefits of the TPP to videogame development companies. Now, to be clear, I actually don't like the TPP in terms of my personal politics, and overall support Trump's decision to cut it, cause I'm a filthy socialist like that. But in terms of stuff that directly benefits me? Yeah, the TPP is pretty good for the game industry, because it pushes intellectual property laws into Asia, where counterfeiting is a real issue.

Let's talk about recruitment. Videogame studios, or at least the high end ones where I tend to work, try to recruit the best of the best in the world. Actively recruit internationally. The United States is now looking a lot less attractive to the kind of talent from Europe and Canada that we want to recruit.

And to be far, even if this gets bad, the solution to it is pretty simple--if top tier game studios can't recruit in America, we just open up offices in other countries. (We already have a Canadian office).

And really, that does put a cap on how much damage he can realistically do to me. Even if Mike Pence does something that seriously fucks over LGBT people, I can just leave the country.



Overall Trump hasn't really done much so far, though. Like...most of the stuff he's tried hasn't gone through congress or has been blocked in the courts. Or it's stuff that only affects government employees, people on submarines, or Israeli intelligence officers.
