its beating Metal gear solid. one of the most iconic cinematic masterpiece games of the year and its being beaten by Zelda OoT.

I remember back in the day being impressed with how fun OoT was, but I also remember being blown away by how compelling FFT, Metal Gear Solid, and Xenogears were. It was a tough one, but I voted for Xenogears.

OoT is without a doubt the most influential game on that list. MGS1 is still interesting for its story relevance in a still contemporary series (that will age out in due time) but it's a janky game. FFT is my personal favourite in the list but it's old and not particularly influential. Xenogears is cool and all but its from an era of laughably dumb RPG plots and despite its fun combat system it doesn't offer much unique to this day and age. It's combo system is simple and fun but if I were 14 I definitely wouldn't give a shit about it and it didn't bring much unique to the table even when it was new.

You could sum all that up as NintenFAQs and not be too far off but still.

tactics fanbase over exaggerated how great that game was. It was a waste of ~20 hours and I'm glad a much better game is beating it

Never touched Xenogears but I liked Xenosaga

I still think it has the best story ever told in the series and it remains my favorite game/soundtrack. I definitely didn't see it as a waste of time (which is probably hundreds of hours since 1998).

The sad part is, that's not even that true. Square had a huge bias on the site early on, but that's mostly just FFVII-related, and it's really tapered off in later years.

The Nintendo bias is strong, irrational, and undying though, and always has been. There's a reason why polls here almost never accurately reflect real world buying patterns.
