Some posts are ok. The comments section are terrible. The top comment is always some dumbass pun thread, then under that some guy says "god dammit! Here! Take my upvote good sir!"...it's so cringy sometimes. I know CE is bad but Reddit can be a whole new level.

The voting system can be horribly cliquey at times, but if you stick to parts you like it is great.

Because if you don't have a popular opinion, you get downvoted to hell. It's absolute shit when it comes to proper discussion. It's pretty good for just sharing content, though.

Stay away from the defaults and it's pretty solid. Some of those are horrible at times though.

But nothing compares to the trolling I've seen on GameFAQs. At least shit like that gets downvoted on reddit.

My biggest problem is how massive of a hivemind there is at Reddit, and the upvote system keeps it that way. It's nearly impossible to have a discussion on there, and the content is basically tailored for the archetypal Redditor. The influx of sponsored content (i.e. AMAs by celebrities promoting a new movie, people using default subs to advertise their business, etc) is also pretty obvious now that Reddit has gotten really popular, and it's very off-putting, as is the ceaseless low-effort political posts (r/esist, r/marchagainsttrump, etc).

It gets a little better when you get out of default subs and get into more special interest subs, but I find that for a lot of them, the communities on those boards take being on Reddit way too seriously.

Basically. I saw some comments on the freelance sub where a guy was giving legitimately great freelancing advice to the thread starter, and another guy was getting angry at him for some reason and starts putting words in the first guy's mouth. First guy with his great advice starts getting downvoted and I really wanted to kick everyone in that thread.

Overall though I love the comments, though I stay on AskReddit a lot. People have really interesting stories and facts to share, and a lot of times one of those comments will lead to comment chain that gives even more interesting details and facts and shit about whatever they're talking about.

Sadly, yup. It can be disencouraging to post, but is whatever in the end I guess. Internet is like it all over, so not unique to reddit.

But as you said, can find some great responses/stories at times. Just often feels like needing to save through mud for it

I remember I won a free copy of Steins;Gate 0 on PS4 once. I felt like being nice instead of selling it so I made a giveaway thread on the Steins;Gate sub. I got a small chunk of downvoting. Didn't take me into the negatives or anything but I was curious as to their train of thought that led to the downvoting.

It depends entirely on which subreddits you look at. A lot of the smaller ones for games are great for asking questions or discussing certain things about the game in question. But yeah, a lot of the bigger ones just become hiveminds or echo chambers.

Where did I say Reddit is unbiased? I didn't, I made a valid point that the echo chamber argument is way overblown, which it is. Of course there's bias on political subs. And the internet as a whole way overuses Rick and Morty jokes, not just Reddit.

I can only imagine because people can't troll or stay around for long because the voting system won't put up with their shit.


Also the subs I got to people do have nice discussions like r/pcgaming which is also nice because I get news. Askreddit is probably the more pun and stupid joke filled Sub people are talking about.

Overall though Reddit has much higher higher and much...much...much lower lows than gamefaqs. Overall though stick to the right place and Gamefaqs will look like your drunkard friend that doesn't seem all that fun to hang around with.
