I've had fucking three occasions in the past year where some jackass refused to check the back, and then when I got the manager involved, he checked and found it.

When I worked at Target I did. Or more specifically I found someone on the backroom team ta use their scanner ta see if we had anything'n they'd nab it if we did

when i worked at a grocery store i would go get the scan gun and if it told me we had some in the back then yeah, i would go look and i'd actually try.

When I used to stock I'd always scan the item first. If it had a positive on-hand count then I would check. If it had zero then I would just tell the customer that it says we have none and if we have any on order.

I used to work in the video game department at Toys R Us when i was a senior in high school and I would always have to check in the back because the department manager sucked and wouldn't always restock games on the shelves...or even put out the new releases. We'd often have a ton of unopened boxes of games and even systems.

Like when the Gameboy Advance SP first came out it was a hot commodity.

For a few days I thought we were legit sold out til a customer asked if I could check the back and I found 4 boxes of them.

There were times when I knew 100% we didn't have it as I had just checked on the same item earlier. You go to the back to appease the customer. Even if you are wasting their time and you think they'll appreciate you knowing and saving them, they'll be more upset if you don't check. Some Customers are weird.

Its your job. You already are doing something that a robot could do, earn your wage.

I don't usually ask people to check in the back unless I have a pretty good reason to suspect it's not sold out.

Like one time I went to Kroger and they had no bananas and I'm like "bullshit. Get me motherfucking bananas."

I'll check if they're nice. If they aren't I just go back and look for 2 seconds, text on my phone for the next minute, and then come out and say we don't have it. or if I do find it I'll hide it somewhere so if they ask for a manager, the manager doesn't find it either. Fuck them.

I don't work retail anymore though so meh
