whenever issues of things like how infamously shitty our streets are, paying Orleans parish firefighters the backpay they're owed or helping subsidize costs on certain properties to help remove or clean up houses that have been rotting abandoned since after Katrina all we ever get is Mitch Landrieu crying poor saying the city is broke and can't afford to do any of those things and we just had another round of this with Landrieu and this is after we had a HUGE tax spike to do all the things I mentioned .

Oh and let's also not forget how Mitch Landrieu LIED and said an anonymous donor is paying the costs of removing and storing the statues when it turns out there was no anonymous donor and it was taxpayers footing the bill AFTER Mitch said he couldn't afford to fix our streets or give backpay to city employees who are owed literal years of pay from the city

But I'm sure you think pissing away taxpayer dollars for the sake of Landrieu farming votes and profiting off their removal is ok because racism, right?

-NOPD is seriously underfunded and understaffed

-NOFD is still owed back pay from the city and are underfunded and understaffed

-The New Orleans public schools are underfunded

-Our streets our shitty on levels none of you will ever understand

-Many main bridges in and out of the city are seriously not in good shape and in need of major repairs

-There are literally thousands of decrepit and abandoned houses from after Katrina

-Our muder rate and crime rate is competely out of control

-Many of the city's poorer and usually more "diverse" residents are being pushed out of their neighborhoods by Landrieu approved gentrification

I could go on for literally days of the things that should get attention before a bunch of harmless statues, but of course according to CE catering to feelings is more imortant than any of the problems I mentioned

politicians have a long history of doing "quick wins" that immediately appeal to voters at the expense of long term stability. improving roads isn't sexy and doesn't give people a feeling of "woah this is new and exciting".

besides, half the reason people even visit New Orleans, even before Katrina, was because it was a quaint little shithole. it's got a lot of culture that emerged as a direct result of it being shitty

Mich Landrieu is doing this AGAINST the will of the NOLA voters, that is the literal opposite of democracy, it's why when it was suggested by the rational council members that it be decided by a city wide vote Landrieu shot it down and said I'm taking them down anyway. It's almsot as if he knew if it was put to a city wide vote, we'd vote to leave them in place and he'd look like a fool with egg all over his face

New Orleans does not want these monuments taken down, we have made it very clear that Mitch Landrieu does not represent the interests of the people of New Orleans. He's talking about running for governor or even president and is only doing this to farm votes in places outside of New Orleans that have no business saying what should stay or go in place they have know literally nothing about other than Landrieu propaganda
