The recommendations for more melodic death metal sucked, imo. I listened to some of the songs by Carcass, In Flames, Arch Enemy, etc. but I couldn't listen to the entirety of it (I just skipped around) since there were no interesting bits. Obviously within specialized subgenres things start to sound the same, but heavy metal in general integrates a lot more musical styles than the other popular genres. Pop, country, rap, etc, all exist within much more narrow bands. You do have to do some digging to find the "good" metal, though. Note: these aren't infallible bands and still contain their share of boring songs (except Battle Beast) but these tend to be the more speed-ier type of metal. This is important since when being fast, melody almost becomes a requirement. (This isn't always true but that sorta have to co-exist.) inb4 "so power metal?" Not exactly. Some genres have so much crap in them. But the good tracks of the genre are amazing. You really have to look through the genre yourself and listen to a bunch of crap before finding good stuff. Also most of the time if you like a song the rest from the band shouldnt be much worse.
