The pacing sucks, this show lost all direction. They reveal the two big titans identity casually as some other chicks talk over him. What the fuck?

I'll give it one thing,tho. Not a single person in the show dies withe the fake ass movie dignity . They all go out screaming in pain, begging for their lives and in some cases, just completely regressing into childhood and that's how death is, no big speeches, no swelling music, no rain drops, they just die and the struggle continues.

The pacing is awesome, a nice change from the "Let's have a full conversation between every single attack" other animes have. Beside the casual reveal was actually shocking in a good way. Sasha's story gave her more depth, xenophobia is an interesting flaw to give to a character especially considering the current political climate.

i only seen the first 2 eps so far and they were kinda boring. hoping it picks up soon. might watch a couple more tonight. kinda forgot about watching it.

Wut? This seasons been WAY better so far IMO. Literally hasn't let off the breaks for more than a few minutes all season.

The reveal was one of my favorite moments of the series! I'm loving how it's pretty much subverting most anime tropes in the process too. No, you won't win a fight because you get pissed. No, you won't survive because of the power of friendship. No, you won't have some massive dramatic reveal when you decide to let everyone know who you are. Etc.

It's been fantastic so far.

I've seen the first 4 as they've aired on Toonami. The pacing is significantly better, but the script is atrocious, and the series still feels like relishing in human suffering is a good trait to have in a story by itself - as if just having characters die terribly, even though they aren't developed or interesting and have personality - is supposed to be good drama, or make me care. It's just bad.

It follows the same idea that a ton of modern anime lacking in any self-awareness have. Tokyo Ghoul (which airs after AoT) has the exact same issue, and Akame Ga Kill had it too. Killing people off, screaming a bunch, and having weird, exaggerated faces with camera shakes/close-ups doesn't make your show mature, and those are the only dramatic cards these shows know how to play because they have terrible scriptwriters and they don't know how to use the visual medium to their advantage.

I mean, in the last episode I saw...

The guy who reached for alcohol dying was funny because the scene is so overplayed in every regard that it feels like a satire skit. The character narrates what's clearly happening on screen (what's a visual medium and atmosphere ayy lmao audience is fucking dumb, they won't get this! NEEDS MOAR NARRATION) , and setup is as cliche as it gets, with no solid setup that earns him a moment like that since we know almost nothing about him.

The lack of a good script results in terrible dialogue which helps result in bad characterization which makes the show terrible. It's based heavily in the war genre which more or less lives and dies on its ability to create relatable and sympathetic characters the audience can attach too. Whoever wrote AoT misses this.

It's better than season 1 in a few spots but last week's episode pretty much killed any optimism I had for the show going forward. It's falling back to the problems it had in season 1 with overplaying 1 dimensional character deaths and it still has the same development & scripting issues.

Like, sure, the pacing is fixed to an extent - but that wasn't the biggest issue with season 1 to begin with. Sure, they could've cut like half of season 1, but the core problem there was with the characters & story. That hasn't changed, even if the second season seems a little more willing to give secondary characters spotlight. The improvements are unfortunately minor.

The only time they can pull off being creepy is in some sort of atmospheric moment/scene and this is never accomplishments because the show doesn't get subtlety. Fucking Slender Man vlogs from 5-6 years ago had a better grasp on this shit

it's like the show totally misuses all of the Dark Fantasy tropes it has

literally uses the dialogue "DERANGED WALL CULTISTS" to introduce something that should've been important in the first 4-5 episodes and still hasn't done much of anything with it

I just fucking wish this series died already. It's fucking boring as hell, and the armored and giant guys being the 2 kids were so fucking obvious it hurt. I'm glad the reveal wasn't made to be some big deal because it really wasn't.

i frankly don't know where the show should have gone. that was my interest in the show... i wanted to see where it would go and what all the mystery was about. i do know questionable writing when i see it, because i have good writing to compare it to. it's a very strange choice to make a big reveal randomly without any buildup in the middle of an episode when another character is talking over it in the background. i'm not saying it's a bad choice, but it is strange.

just for the record i think the only pseudo intellectual here is you. you're the one who busts out "nerdy edge lords" when someone has a criticism about your favorite animu. you think that anyone with a criticism about a show is trying to be an intellectual about it

Not liking it and claiming everything is trash is different. I did not like the Breaking bad ending even though everyone thought it was amazing, but I don't think it was a bad ending in itself. Beside stuff like that in real life can happen quite fast and in a very unexpected way. The anime is unrealistic, but the feeling of the characters are believable.

Sasha's lack of self control for her hunger and her xenophobia is good character development especially considering they live in a world with limited ressource.

The traitors tried to quickly put Eren on their side. Eren was pissed as fuck, a believable reaction unlike most anime who would have solved it with dah power of the friendship. Sure Eren can be lame at time, but he isn't a Mary Sue unlike most main characters in anime.

actually the plot for these episodes works quite well

the problem is how long it took to get to season 2

if you had just finished season 1 and bought the manga and read these chapters it flows really well

The manga is just one gigantic build up once the gang finds what's in Grisha's basement. Seriously, the basement is probably the best part of the manga which is why I'm still reading it. The only thing people are going to really hate about it is the super long exposition and new terms that can get overwhelming.
