I've seen a lot of folks playing randomized games on the Youtubes recently, like Link to the Past and Final Fantasy and such, so I decided to start one up myself, and thought maybe b8 would be interested.

If you would like to try your hand at one, PM me for a useful link because GameFAQs reasons.

The one I am now playing is Super Mario RPG, which happens to be (basically) my first time playing this game. I softlocked my first run when all my special abilities were too expensive to use during the Timed Attack tutorial with a blocked Rewind function for some reason. My second run, I quit because Mario's Attack was half of what it's supposed to be and his defense was 1, and that's not fun; that's just tedious.

So this is what my third try's Mario started at:

He also started with a cheaper and better Super Jump, so glass tank Mario ahoy! And then I leveled up and this happened:

It costs three times as much FP and does less damage so that's neat. I picked up Mallow, who actually is very nearly the same as what he's supposed to be, apparently. If you disregard the fact that he has 11 HP anyway. It's a good thing Mario is a true destroyer of worlds. He's just really slow so everything is able to hit me first and really whittle down his 70+ HP (and kill Mallow a lot).

Anyway, I just got his coin back by Super Jumping on this crocodile thief twice for over 200 damage apiece and am now heading back to the city.

I got enough FP for Mallow to use Bowser Crush to try it in the Mack fight.

It broke him.

I got Bowser. He has 26 HP and 12 Defense. But both kinds of attack are higher than usual. I thought Mario was a glass cannon, but he's gotten ridiculous level-ups in everything and has turned into this by level 9:

He is an absolute war machine. The game has gone from "the whole point of an RPG is to not let all 3 team members die" to "I guess I can institute a clause to try and not let the other 2 die for fun". I could fully complete this game, I believe, by just letting everyone else stay at 1 HP after they die and not worry about it because Mario will just tank everything and destroy all else that moves.

And then of course right after I say that, the next boss is a cake I have to attack multiple times per turn to beat. Lovely. On the bright side, my reward for finishing the fight:
