In the end of the day, though, the black neighbors revealed they were more uncomfortable with the wife's fake efforts to be PC than Allen's crude (but honest) comments that made fun of black people stereotypes. I didn't expect the episode to go in that direction.

Yeah no wonder republican like yet.

Yeah, it actually does matter, because once you hit syndication your value as a new show declines and networks can live off of licensing fees. This is purely a financial decision, despite what the alt right bitches about

I dunno

I'm not saying you're wrong (getting to syndication is definitely huge) but it also seems to be a popular show with decent ratings -- it actually improved its standing between last seasons finale and this season's, which is hard to do in 2016-2017 for a TV show

I mean, maybe ABC is more discriminating, but NBC held on to stuff like Parks and Rec that did not do this well in ratings ever

What weird timing. I had never heard of this show until last week when I was visiting my mom. She thought I would like it so I checked out an episode with her. I wasn't feeling it. It felt like a 90s sitcom and the laugh track annoyed the piss out of me.

Kinda sad to see it go since my mom liked it, although it's telling that it's been around six years and I didn't hear about it til now.

If you guys actually think a broadcast television network show would cancel a decently performing television series over political differences, you're crazy. ABC is struggling, they'll take any winning show. But if ABC did need to take over production, it's likely that it wasn't financially beneficial to set up production on an already old show.

Actually looking in on it, ABC is gutting a lot of their non-self-produced shows even if their ratings would otherwise imply renewal.

Allen, who is no stranger to politics, has used “Last Man Standing” to poke fun at former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s loss to Trump, to mock the prevalence of “microaggressions” on college campuses in the aptly named “Precious Snowflake” episode, and to advocate for gun rights.
That article's doing a damn good job of making me want to watch this show.

I've started watching reruns that I see on tv lately and the show is:

-Reverse Home Improvement in the fact that he is the only man instead of all boys and Jill being the only woman.
-Instead of Working on TV show he does Vlogs
-Works for a Outdoors store instead of a tool company.
-Think of the show like a real life, toned down American Dad. Tim Allen's character is a hard core republican for life like stan and, through other characters and plots, he learns to understand where the political left comes from while still trying to keep his political right viewpoints. He learns to become more empathetic and judge characters based on their own personal actions rather than preconceived notions.

That's a shame, I don't really follow it but I catch a lot of the re-runs. It's a pretty good show, and while more conservative than most shows, I thought it highlighted flaws and strengths of both sides. It was kind of nice watching something more moderate than something that beats you over the head with either liberalism or conservatism.

I enjoyed it but it wasnt really all that conservative really. It was more about the changing times and maculinity. There were some obama/hillary jokes and occasional poking fun at sjws, but it was more about grand pa beinf a mans man who was rough and tumble and took care of his family and wanted his grand son to play outside and get scrapes, and get in fights with a hippie dad that wanted the son to stay inside and play with barbies.

The show ran for 6 years, apparently had the same jokes and political leanings the entire time...and just now, after 6 years that's become a problem? That's the story you guys are telling yourselves to blame "the libruhl media!"...lol...shows get canceled all the time. Even popular ones. Fresh Prince ran for 6 years. Granted it didn't get canceled but 6 years is a good while...especially for a niche show that was barely advertised. I barely heard about it. Only time I did was that one time he had Home Improvement cast on it. It was unforgettable enough that I forgot who the cast members were.

It's not so much that he plays a republican, as it is that he plays a republican and everyone who opposes him is so utterly stupid and hypocritical that he is absolutely, 100% always right. Hell, he has different ethnicities on the show just so he can make fun of them and trade racial jokes about each other and that is somehow okay.

It's just ... it's like if American Dad portrayed Stan as 100% always in the right. It's funny, but not in the way it intends to be.

These days it's about more than ratings. For starters, ratings just never get as high as they used to. Even the highest rated shows draw fewer people than a mediocre prime time show from 30 years ago. That means less advertising money. The only way a major prime time show can make big money is if they're also bringing in lots on international, DVD, and digital sales.

This show had good, not great, ratings. And I don't see anything about it being a big seller international, or a show that keeps selling after it's on the air.

Considering this, and the fact that the cost was going up, and it's easy to see why ABC would pull the plug. Especially because the show could suddenly drop in quality and popularity, in which case ABC would be really screwed.
