Early May in Persona 4 Golden, and I just got to the famous "Big Bro" scene. Nanako's gotta be one of the best child characters in gaming, right? Especially as far as NPCs go.

I can confirm Kurisu > Mitsuru.

Though to be fair that's mostly just because Kurisu is really damn good. (I am assuming this is Steins;Gate and not some other Kurisu I've never heard of.) Pretty sure there's only maybe two Persona characters I'd even consider ranking above Kurisu and I say that as someone who has Persona 3/4/5 all in my top 10 video games.

You need stick with Steins;Gate until at least the halfway point. Jeff Zero and I didn't really dig it until then, but after that, we were hooked.

Initiating Nanako's and Dojima's S. Links reminded me of the way that the P4 anime handled it, which is one of the few things it unequivocally did better than the game (along with the King's Game). Decided to go rewatch that episode. Gets me every time, especially with the special ending theme.

Middle of May and I've now initiated the Adachi S. Link! Fun new addition to Golden. The Adachi stuff was the only halfway interesting stuff in the Golden anime, too!

We are going to attempt this via Google Voice again. There will no doubt be some strange results again. The strange results at a certain flavor.

when last we left off our heroes were in a village overrun by cats people. We were chasing an old lady who was also a cat person. Soon after reloading my save file I met a traveling Oracle by the name of Susan. No Google not Susan. Zueljin. Okay will take that. He is accompanied by a fellow who really likes Yuri. How much does this fellow like Yuri? Well let's just say the fellows acupuncture causes Yuri's SP to go down. Speaking of SP I must say it is a unique gameplay mechanic that I need to finish every battle within six turns or Alice will go crazy.

We fought the cat lady by getting some sort of anti cat people seal or something. As a self-professed cat person myself I must say this was borderline offensive. But it is all in a day's work. We leave the village having successfully defeated the cat people. We arrived at a new town but not before some scenes introducing a Japanese army colonel as well as a scene reintroducing Roger Bacon. He is conversing with an old man names some name I don't remember. There are plots within plots within plots. Small Wonder transients recommended me this game.

I actually do have a game play question. I am not sure how my Google voice transcribing will do in terms of making said gameplay question coherent but I will try. So these fusion monsters Yuri is gaining during my trips to the graveyard. How should I decide which ones to equip? I guess based on the stat boosts which seemed to occur when the differing beasts are equipped? Is there anything else I should look out for? This seems like a neat system so far not least of which because I am enjoying the art design for the monsters. Although I am wondering if I will continue battling evil four each and every time I come to the graveyard. Because I've got news for the masks. Evil 4 is easy.

Active the new town I am introduced to a lottery mechanic. I fell. Then I happened upon a town and I am introduced to yet another ring system mechanic just like the lottery mechanic as well as the battle mechanic and even the slowest gate mechanic. A fragment of the preceding sentence is probably incoherent. What I am trying to say is why the heck is everyone in this game obsessed with this ring? Do people just carry around miniature versions of the ring and some sort of early 20th century cursor which happens to drop on various portions of the Ring? Are people just this board? Did Google seriously just capitalize the are and Ring in reference to Middle Earth? Anyway so far I have not screwed up on the discount mechanic via my guild card. So I guess there's that. But seriously these people have no lives.

Being John Malkovich is a woman who Yuri likes. But not as much as she likes him! I have to say though URI keeps thinking about what to do with women when they're unconscious and it makes me slightly uncomfortable. I am trying to imagine how brutally this game would be attacked for this if it were to release in 2017. I am a terrible person perhaps because while imagining this I am laughing. Being John Malkovich is a terrorist and we fall into the sewers and need a dog. We fight a Kappa. Actually 3 Capas. Capicola. I have no idea why that word was just transcribed. The dog turns out to be the old man whose name I can't remember and we wind up with some amusing text boxes featuring a cute puppy who is evil. Then we kill him.

We flying a plane until it crashes and then we meet see mother. I find see mother really really really really funny. I record a YouTube video because she is really really really really funny. Now we are off on a quest to stop some ghosts and save Alice.

yeah, I wonder how SH1 Yuri plays today. I also wonder if that's a weird localization thing from an era where this guy are sick was commonplace or if it's in the Japanese. I would probably expect that to be in the Japanese but for it to be whitewashed when coming here. there just was no quality control in SH1 (see sea mother). anyway, that stuff fades away soon.

as for battle - sh1 uses an opposite elements system. fire <-> water, light <-> dark, air <-> earth. each fusion also has different skills. I usually stick with fire (physical attack up), light (all party heal) and dark (special attack up). at the point where you are, they're pretty much all the same. eventually you'll get enough soul power to get to level 2 and those guys will have better skills, like attacks that hit all.

if you're still in Dalian, you can grind out the frogs there for light souls if you wanted. light fusion makes the first half of the game's bosses a lot easier but it's not needed or anything. there just isn't a lot of opportunity for light souls.

Got a little Shadow Hearts time in before bed. Very little, because I'm tired! The Japanese colonel is masquerading as a smuggler and Zhuzhen believes this is all karmic destiny what's brought us together. We want to go to Shanghai to take the fight to Deduai but the game can't possibly be near its end already so I reckon things won't go as planned. Considering our escort is actually our nemesis, there are all sorts of fun ways this could go pear-shaped.

I found some money though thanks to dried fish. Naturally, I had to deal with the ring before I could successfully dig it up. Also, the man whose turtle I rescued? Yeah, he's swindling us, urging is to pay to use his how and rake up restorative leaves. What a jerk.

This was so small an update that I didn't even bother transcribing. Instead, you get a comprehensible post. Poor you.

Or maybe my voice is just tired like the rest of me.

Well, I'm still in Zeiss, but all I have left to do there is enter the Den of Evil Penguins. Been slightly altering my party to keep things a little fresh. Still picked Agate, but once I had 5 party members I took Olivier this time instead of Kloe like I did when I originally played. Some neat dialogue from him at times.

Looks like we're probably getting net back on the 6th, so we can resume our usual festivities then. Psycho-Pass, Kanon, Eureka Seven, Attack on Titan, Persona 5. Whole nine yards.

I rented Star Trek (2009) for us to watch because I had a feeling Leon would like it. (He did!) I don't envy Abrams with that movie. He had to reintroduce a 43-year-old franchise to a whole new generation. There were 10 movies and 28 seasons of television at that point, and the latest show (2001-2005) was not well-regarded at the time. Star Trek remained lucrative in merchandising, but its future elsewhere had become dubious. He married a good helping of cast chemistry to a decent script and still seeded plenty of winks and nods for the existing fanbase.

I know a contingent of Trek fans dislike the new films (oh believe me, I know) but I dig 'em. Sure, the limited structure of feature films doesn't allow for vast worldbuilding and whatnot, but these are pretty great, especially the first one and Beyond. Into Darkness is likeable.

Well, Olivier has some banter with Schera when you run across her and Anelace in the tunnels. He also trolls Agate pretty consistently across a number of sidequests, and leads Tita into thinking he and Schera have a relationship. He also occasionally drops the facade a bit to make insightful comments when things are more serious which is mainly what I've tried to key in on.

Highlight though is (full-game spoilers): When you talk to Cassius at Leiston Fortress. Cassius thanks him for helping out with Estelle when he has his "own mission" to attend to and tells Olivier not to forget to handle that. Which is a nice nod to the Erebonia political plays and Cassius's "in" on them that don't come home until the end of Chapter 8 with the standoff. He evades Estelle's "What was that about?" in typical fashion.

I plan to take him (and Kloe of course) along for Chapter 3 too, honestly he probably fits in there more from a narrative standpoint anyway. By contrast I had Tita (and Kloe of course) in the party for my first playthrough.

Anyway, I used Zane a lot in FC because he's kinda beastly, especially toward the endgame. I used him for the final dungeon along with Kloe (who's a must for any party when available).

Enjoyed the Star Trek movie, even if it was a bit slow to get rolling. The Leonard Nimoy cameo was the best part, even as someone who's never watched Trek before this.
