Whether I know a single thing about the character or not, I shall rate any and all characters you provide. Truly, this is going to be one of the greatest topics of our time.

I shall also keep track of all characters for your benefit on this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X8Hrag7WpbWSJ0aRwSZhgzxmPDw1fmzo8Fe0fYUNmwg/edit?usp=sharing

Two rules:

1) Please only nominate one character at a time and wait for your next nomination until I rate your last one.

2) Please include the name of the franchise from which the character originates.

Let's get to rating.

The Joker (Batman: Arkham series)

Rating: 81/100
Over time I've actually soured a little bit on the Joker in the Arkham games. He was fantastic in Asylum, truly a pitch-perfect rendition of the character. City made him feel tacked on to a much more interesting plot about other characters more deserving of spotlight. Origins flat-out shoehorned him into a game that should have belonged to new characters like Black Mask, and he returned to form as a great comic relief without much impact on the plot in Knight. Overall, the highs are better than the lows, but creators need to stop wasting the potential of other characters by forcing them to play second fiddle to the Joker.

I've never laughed as hard at a DC character as I have at Prime. He's a hateful troll full of vitriol, and Geoff Johns really nailed his characterization. Fantastically redesigned over the last decade.

Probably my favorite character from Symphonia. Not exactly well-written, but sometimes style is enough to make up for a lack of substance. Just look at Marvel Comics for many, many perfect examples of this.

In a tour de force performance by Kevin Spacey, Verbal Kint is given life in such a manner as to make you reconsider all your preconceived notions about Verbal Kint by the end of the film. And yet even as you do so, you still have to admire his panache and his fast talking (and limp walking).

Easily the second-worst character from the last year's worth of Impact. And if you disagree with me, I'm calling you a LIAR. I generally like quick-thinking roguish characters. I admire wits, especially combined with agility and inventiveness. Sly, however, also suffers from being pretty family-friendly. There's no depth to him really. And I don't really have nostalgia glasses for any Sony franchise, so that prevents him from reaching into the 80s range like most thieves.

I don't usually watch anime. In fact, I tend to find it pretty irritating and grating. However, Cowboy Bebop is the exception to that rule. Anchored by a fantastic main character with some depth, Bebop is able to straddle a line of gravitas and levity thanks to Spike. In fact, the only real thing I don't like about Spike is his name.

Louis Wu (Ringworld)

Rating: 78/100
I have two favorite characters in the Known Space universe. Louis is far from either one of them. However, that doesn't mean he isn't a fantastic character. He's an interesting mix of smarts and luck, and that makes him unpredictable. As a reader, you want to see how he handles every obstacle put in front of him. Known Space is admittedly more about the concepts than the characters, world-building taking front seat from the smaller scale, intimate character pieces in other works of literature. However, that doesn't detract from Louis Wu in the slightest.

I have to say that it might be simply the fact that I don't like the concept of Hobbits. Quite honestly, I wish Saruman had been successful in his enslavement of the Shire.

Everyone always talks about how tragic Faramir's story is. Instead, I like to focus on how utterly avoidable Faramir's story was. Denethor's madness should have been clear from the get-go to his son, and instead of adhering to the stupidity of duty, he should have sought out the aid of rangers or Elves like his brother did to right the wrongs of his kingdom. Instead, he was blinded by a Gilbert and Sullivan level of loyalty and got his ass burnt.
