I loved Bill Nye as a kid, but facing the reality that he's not really the objective scientist he portrayed has been rough.

I believe strongly in LGBTQ rights (I am bisexual myself), but science should not be slanted by the political views of the day. It was bad for Galileo, Copernicus and Darwin. We can promote transgender and gender fluidity without having to shoehorn it into a show supposedly about objective science.

This is the big problem, IMO. Once you start mixing pseudoscience like this into a show that you claim is all about promoting real science, you open it all up to criticism. This is how you get people who were curious and on the fence to tune out.

I've yet to watch any of this show, and doubt I will outside of just curiosity, but it sounds like Bill Nye presents everything in an insulting manner and does nothing to actually educate people. Rather insult them for not already agreeing with him. I don't see what a show like that does for anyone. People who already agree already know what he's going to say, people who don't agree is going to turn it off because being insulted by the host of a show sure doesn't sound like something I'd want to watch.

Yeah even though I don't really like the guy who made the ARK thing, Bill Nye showing up with a camera crew just to try to prove "faith" wrong and arguing with the guy for half an hour pretty much showed his true colors. He just acted like an asshole that shouldn't had even showed up at a Noah's Ark reproduction.

"Oh I'm Bill Nye I'm totally gonna crush this man, with strong faith and conviction in his god, by using the scientific method". Doesn't work like that Bill.

Gizmodo said it best

Instead, we watched for an excruciating five minutes as Nye pitted Jacobson against another of his round table guests, energy and environment reporter Richard Martin, to explain at a ten-year-old level why Martin is like, totally wrong and dumb for thinking nuclear power should be part of our energy future, too. The entire exchange was apparently intended to bolster the (not exactly scientific) viewpoint Nye interjected throughout the segment, that “nobody wants nuclear power

This, unfortunately, is quintessential of the show%u2014a small amount of information packaged to promote a cartoon-caricature understanding of a complex science issue, slanted to the POV of an unabashedly political science comedian

A real show about science education would present the facts and let them speak for themselves. The anti-nuclear power example is one of many examples of how the show actually makes a mockery out of objective scientific discourse. And it damages the narrative that scientists try to be as objective as possible.

No. We should only support those concepts if they are supported by science. Does gender fluidity have any merit to it?

Yeah, this is ridiculous. An anti-Nuclear stance at this point, given the safety advances of modern nuclear facilities, is completely political. The newest Gen III+ nuclear plants produce almost no waste and can't be used to create weapons-grade plutonium. There isn't a scientific argument to made against them. If it wasn't for the public sentiment against nuclear, this would be by far the cleanest and most cost efficient source of energy we would rely on at this point.

my gf is part of "gen z" (21) and she is DEFINITELY not conservative, and neither are her friends. I hate to say it but they are all whores or were whores in the past.

But considering how much of a lefty I was at 21, and the fact that my GF really doesn't even know shit about politics, I imagine that is gonna change.

The funny part about her leaning left as far as sexuality and shit like that goes, she can be quite racist at times, likely not even realizing she's being racist.
