The biggest 9/11 joke that exists is the fact that people believe it was terrorists (in reply to someone joking about how 9/11 memes are good) AngryVirgin posted... Actually, the BIGGEST 9/11 joke that exists is the fact that people believe the government has any reason whatsoever to destroy their own property. If they got a signle fucking thing out of taking down their own World Trade Center, then the theory would at least make sense, but they don't that I can see. ...And thus a war was declared between 9/11 truthers and sane people. It inherently encourages commenters to build on each other's comments as opposed to adding a new comment, which, admittedly, actually does produce some pretty funny chains of original, chained jokes that are even funnier because they are chained -- because they depend on the context of the former. But, unfortunately it also leads to commenters trying to "piggyback" on the popularity of someone else's joke with a low-effort zinger or meme... You could probably even quantify this by counting the number of upvotes as you descend into each "level" of the comment tree, with the original comment being the root... You can go into just about any thread and guess what the top-rated comment is going to be every time. If you scroll down though, you get some interesting bits of conversation. On any given topic someone with expertise will show up with little tidbits of knowledge that you'd never learn otherwise. I like that about reddit.
