It's based on the fact that they are cheap foods.

It's stupid, though, because fried chicken is an incredibly popular food item among lower and middle-class Americans/Canadians regardless of race. It's funny because the only time I've ever seen a black guy, an indigenous guy, and a white guy walk into a fast food joint together, it was at KFC.

But there's tons of cheap foods. I don't hear a stereotype about them liking instant ramen or TV dinners or hamburger helper or some shit like that.
And year relative to other meats chicken isn't the most expensive but just generally speaking chicken isn't dirt cheap either.
Like shit the last time I went to KFC and got a family meal with a bucket, sides, and a drink it was like $40 and KFC is a trash tier chicken place these days unfortunately. Not saying $40 is super expensive or anything, but there's much cheaper options.

It's a cheap food to buy while offering some kind of nutritional value unlike ramen noodles.

As for Kool aid. Idk. It's easy to make. I guess.

This is incorrect.

The stereotype of Blacks liking fried chicken and watermelon comes from pre-civil-war era southern U.S. where slaves were much more popular than in the north. Fried chicken is a popular traditional food in the south, and many Black slaves grew up around southern homestyle cooking, adopting it into their own culture (and in turn creating "Soul Food", making it even better than it already was). It's akin to asking why Italian-Americans like pizza so much. Sure everyone likes it, but they made it their own.

As for watermelons, melons were a staple crop during the summertime. Freed/escaping slaves that were heading to the north supposedly took a lot of watermelons with them because it's a nutritious food that's easy to transport, and provides you with a shit ton of water when consumed, making it an ideal food to eat while on the run.

So are you saying it's been passed down since the 1800 hundreds?

if anyone is really interested in understanding why this offensive, google "historyonthenet chicken watermelon."

Because the stereotypes predate those foods. You routinely see stereotypes about lower middle class and lower class people living off TV dinners and Hamburger Helper. Ramen is the stereotypical stock food of poor students.

The reason the stereotype started is because after black people got freedom they would have farms and easy things to farm was chicken and Watermelon. So the attack came about because black people were bettering themselves..

But the stereotype that African Americans are excessively fond of watermelon emerged for a specific historical reason and served a specific political purpose. The trope came into full force when slaves won their emancipation during the Civil War. Free black people grew, ate, and sold watermelons, and in doing so made the fruit a symbol of their freedom. Southern whites, threatened by blacks%u2019 newfound freedom, responded by making the fruit a symbol of black people%u2019s perceived uncleanliness, laziness, childishness, and unwanted public presence. This racist trope then exploded in American popular culture, becoming so pervasive that its historical origin became obscure. Few Americans in 1900 would%u2019ve guessed the stereotype was less than half a century old.

Fried chicken is Southern food and black people are more numerous in the South. I don't know by what mechanism it became more widespread amongst black people nationwide though (slaves escaping to the North, free men and descendents simply moving north, etc.)

Kool-Aid is a cheap drink and is popular amongst poor communities across the board. Black people as a group tend to be poorer and so all sorts of poor stereotypes become associated with them.

Watermelon is one that's almost entirely out of nowhere. I don't remember the exact history on it but if you googled it you'd know as much as I do.
