quality or quantity

I prefer quality over quantity which relates to tomorrows match with 1985 vs 1987. despite 1987 having more quantity of games that are good, i prefer 1985s quality for super mario bros & space harrier being better than both original zeldas & metroid.

Are we referring specifically to the contest? I prefer an amalgam of the two, but since I don't believe 95 should beat everything simply because Chrono Trigger, I picked quantity.

anything :) since i was also watching curse of chucky which had the least amount of kills as the previous child play movies. the quality of barb getting her eye impaled with the knife was pretty savage in comparison.

Shouldn't quality be the way to go then? My family was poor growing up as well, and that's why I tried to make every gaming purchase count by picking something really good, because I knew I couldn't get many.

I still regret getting my parents to pay $80 for Turok in 1997. Shoulda been Goldeneye. =(

i thought about this for a moment and came to the conclusion he meant that he was envious of the not poor who could afford quantity as he found his experience lacking even with the quality of his few games

it's easier than asking

1987 launched Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and myself. In the United States, it even launched The Legend of Zelda, just eight stray days after I was born.

I vote for myself, I guess. And for some of my favorite franchises. :P

I assumed he was talking about food

better to have a week's worth of ramen than a $30 steak

coming from someone who actually eats ramen every day, a $30 steak is, without exaggeration, about 24 weeks worth of ramen. at least, the kind i get, and assuming you only eat one per day.

I was referring to most aspects in life when I made my post

Honestly I didn't even read the opening post and didn't know this was about video games

but honestly it still applies

My parents were NOT about to drop 60-80 bucks on a single video game.

and I don't think we even could've either. So your family was still richer than ours, Yo. >_>. My dad's boss actually gave us his kid's hand me downs and thats how we got our SNES

we got a 5-10 dollar game every several months and we liked it, god dammit

also, as far as food goes, you COULD spend 5-10 bucks on a meal somewhere

but if you wanna eat out somewhere, then just 5 words:

All you can eat Buffet

but yea, otherwise, ham, bread, and ramen at home. Cheese is a delicious luxury

quality when the costs aren't a problem.
quantity when it's even somewhat a consideration.

like yeah, i can go to the store and get two pieces of steak or i can get one of high quality meat for the same cost. if money isn't an issue, i'm always going to take multiples of the second because the quantity won't matter, even if i'm only getting half as much.

as far as the contest goes, i'll take a year with 2 8/10 games over one that has just one 9/10 or 10/10. but there does come a point where the quality will win out and that's usually after enough quantity's accomplished - a year with 5 8/10 games vs. a year with 4 10/10 games? the second is a better year. everyone has a different threshold for this but the basic idea should remain the same for most: as the cost (or equivalent factor) becomes more of a non-issue, the quality decides the choice.
