Atm Switch is basically just a Wii U that looks more fancy. That is because it has mainly Wii U games.
Zelda BOTW and MK8, both ported to it from the Wii U.

But the Wii U failed and the Switch is already a success. How can that be when the Wii U had so many more games. Even comparing to what the Switch teased the Wii U wins on that. Yet it failed.

Did they simply not advertise the Wii U enough. Did it lack some WOW factor that the Switch somehow has?
Or was it the timing of the release? Perhaps it could be that Switch is now released when PS4 and Xbone basically are running on fumes. Infact it seems Sony feels the same and is releasing PS5 next year.

They actually had advertising for the Switch and didn't name it in a way that made people think it was a Wii accessory (and they might not have needed to do that if the Wii didn't have like 500 accessories).

I'd say that it's had a good marketing campaign, combined with a good product that actually delivers on what the marketing campaign says it can do.

the wii u was a confusing and underwhelming product in every single aspect. it's hard to pinpoint just one reason it failed

The Wii U's advertising campaign was not only terrible, but pretty sparse too. People either didn't even know it existed, or thought it was just an overpriced controller add-on for the Wii. By the time people would've gotten the message that it was an actual new console, third-parties stopped supporting it, so it was dead in the water. So yes, good advertising can make a difference. Many good games also fell victim to poor sales because of poor advertisement.

The technology has reached a point the NS works.

The Wii U just wasn't sure what it wanted to be and the tech was lacking.

Also I agree with the name "Wii U" just didn't excite or drawn interest.

Back when the Wii U was first revealed, many people were led to believe this because of how the reveal trailer was made. They showed only the GamePad, no sign of the console, showed it being used with other Wii accessories and games, so one might assume it's yet another controller. Even I came to the same conclusion until I did some more research and saw it was actually a new console.

Also considering future adverts for the system emphasized "it's a brand NEW console" I'm readily willing to believe that it's the case.

I saw quite a few people in Gamestop asking for "that new Wii thingy" and got mad when they realized it wouldn't work with the Wii they already had.

Sounds dumb but there have been times that I spent 5 minutes in Gamestop and see moms go in asking for Pokemon for PSP.

The console's name was indeed terrible and so was the overall marketing but no actual gamer would get confused.

FFS they have different boxes and different sections in every website, nobody who actually BUYS games was confused. Sure some mega casuals would get confused but those are the same people who don't know what iteration of playstation is the current one.

I agree. This is say predominantly a problem if you were to do something like give up hardcore titles entirely and market a console as this cheap kid-friendly alternative. I wonder who would do something like that, though.
