Why would you wait that long if you're getting a refund?

I only wait til the deadline when I owe.

Sounds about right. I filed my taxes by mail last year and it took me about 6 weeks to get a return. I used turbo tax this year and I got a return in about 2 weeks.

Yeah the longer you wait to file the longer time period it takes to process. This is why you file as soon as you get your W2s in the mail.

for e-file they asked for the AGI of last year's return and i didn't have those records on me. since i did my taxes so close to the deadline i couldn't wait for the information to get to me by mail to complete the e-file. so mail was my only option.

I filled a week before the deadline and got my return a week later too.

You can get a transcript of past returns from the IRS website.

For free.

In like five minutes or less.

At least you know for next year :D
