Today, I picked up a phone from a "wireless caller" and answered it. The voice on the other end seemed to be a genuine human female voice calling about health insurance.

But then she asked about whether I have health insurance. I said "I was covered". She replied "I didn't get the question" and asked whether I had health insurance again. I said it more clearly that "I'm already covered." But then she repeated what she said earlier exactly as she said it before. It was then I realized I was dealing with a "robo" caller and not a human.

tl;dr: I guess I'm proud of the fact I was able to tell that a telemarketer was a recording rather than a live human. The robo-caller failed my "Turing Test" for self-awareness.

It just wanted a "yes" I'm guessing.
I've completely stopped answering calls from numbers I don't recognize. With a few situational exceptions.

I got a call from a robot female that 'accidentally' dropped her headpiece (or whatever callers use. All I know is she dropped something, then said 'whoops, give me a sec...' ). Because of that, I thought she was a real person, but it became clear it was a robot when she didn't respond to anything I said. That little ploy was clever, but also incredibly deceitful. Shame on whoever thought that was a good idea.

I started with this years ago because of Virginia Blood Services and job recruiters calling me all the time. I use my voice mail to screen calls.

Whenever I answer the phone, hear a beep, I hang up immediately. Pretty sure it's a beep to record the call, and I'm not down with that, especially since they don't tell you upfront.
