I realized I've been doing that a lot and I have no idea why... is it that I just don't want the game to end? I'm not sure.

Dragon Age, Persona 5, Golden Sun 2, Fire Emblem Awakening... the list goes on

I sometimes get close to platting a game then don't plat it for a long time

But I'm usually really good at finishing games if i put a decent amount of time into them

Yeah like I just played Persona 5 for like 90 hours straight and I know I'm at the end of the game but I'm just not finishing it for whatever reason

I don't think I was SUPER close to finishing it but I was 80+ hours into Dragon Quest VIII and I stopped playing it.

I've done this and seen others do this, it is basically a quirk of human nature. It extends to books and movies and shows and just about anything really. If I had to guess, there's a principle at play to the effect of 'if I finish [thing], then I have no more [thing] to experience, so I should not be in a hurry to finish [thing].'

I've been doing this way too much in recent years. Latest victim so far is Tales of Xillia 2. I think it's due to the backlog I've built up.

Gonna try and not let that happen with the PS4 games.

That sounds about right. I don't want the thing to be over so I'll never finish it, lol

pretty often for me. I'd say this is way more common than me actually beating games. I think I've only 100% completed a game once in my life. there's probably a few dozen that I've actually beaten, like, at most. anything else I normally get 40-60% through and then get bored and go do something else. like there's a part of me that intends to come back to it but it never feels like the game I want to play -- I'd rather be doing something else. and I'm the type of person who often just does whatever I want to do at any given moment.

All the fucking time. Took me seven years to finally beat DA:O, I had a save right before the last battle. Fallout: New Vegas took about the same amount of time. Rogue Galaxy took me about 10 years. And Dead Space 2 took about 5

The only game where I got really close to beating it before quitting was Metroid Prime. Got up to the Meta Ridley fight and never went back.

Actually this.
Though even when I do get hooked I rarely finish it.
Like 1 game every year or 2 will hook me though the whole thing, but it's so rare.

I think the problem stems from when I was a kid and all the games were so incredibly hard that I just got used to never beating games

All the time

I think it's because I usually try to be a completionist and then get burned out before finishing all of the optional content.

There have been some games and tv shows that just couldn't hold my interest the entire way through

Like, I'll play/watch them long enough to figure out whether they're secretly good, then ditch if they aren't

There are only two games I've gotten really close to beating without finishing.

1) Final fantasy 9, because disc four (or three, whichever was the last one) was scratched, and the game would crash during the final dungeon approach cutscene.

2) furi, because I got to the final final boss the day before I had to move, then couldn't play for weeks, then completely forgot how to play by the time I came back

I could put in the effort and re learn, but I have little reason to....

I never beat ocarina of Time all the way through, but I usually lost interest by around the second adult temple, which is hardly close to the end

It is worth noting that none of these games that I'm not finishing are games I don't like. In fact most of them I enjoy a lot but just don't want to finish I guess D:

Thats what happened to me with the new zelda.

When I hit 45 hours and realized i only explored 1/4th of the map without even entering a dungeon.

nope

if i know i'm close to beating a game, i'll beat it.

i have dropped games early or midway through, though.

i think i got a third into mega man legends 2, but then we got a ps2 and my brothers and i basically abandoned our ps1.

pretty sure i was over halfway through suikoden v, but then our ps2 broke and didn't get it repaired until months later, loaded up my only save, and had zero clue on what i was doing or what to do next. didn't feel like starting over so i just moved on.

got 50 hours into dragon age inquisition and had to stop to play persona 5. going back to that, with plans on mainlining it so i don't spend another 50 hours.

I don't know why but I did that with both Final Fantasy VII AND V. I'll have to finish them both someday. I might have done it with FFX too.
