46 y/o Christine Heifer Hoffman from St Petersburg, Florida sent out an email to teachers asking them to keep the White Students in the SAME classes at the predominantly black elementary school so that the white students feel SAFE and COMFORTABLE being all together!!

She has since apologized for trying to segregate the school at Campbell Park Elementary as she wrote that all white students aged 5-10 should be in the "same class" and later clarified, which isn't any better, so that the white kids in each grade be put in the same classes together so they wouldn't be alone and scared with a class of all black students!!

She has since been suspended while her role is being investigated.

Christine apologized and admits it was "poor judgement".

Of the 606 students, only 49 were white and Christine said she was merely looking out for those students and wanted to make them feel safe at the school.

She said "I was not asking that all white students in each grade be clustered, as that is not our practice in creating class lists. I understand how racially insensitive the guideline was"

Parents were not satisified and demand she be fired as Denise Ford said "The parents said that as black people we are used to being the only black person in the classroom and no one is making sure we are comfortable. The parents were not accepting of any excuse. We accept your apology but you have to go"

If black students wanted a "safe space" it would not be considered racist right? Kind of similar situation so I'll just apply the same to the white kids.

If it were black kids being segregated for a safe space there's no way this logic would land you at not racist

While based on the information I don't think it was racist, I do think it was stupid. Her reasoning of trying to make them feel more comfortable and safe is logical, but the execution is poor. If she wanted to do something along those lines to make them more comfortable and safe, it would've been a better option to try and cluster them more, rather than segregate them (IE: there's 49 white kids, try to put at least 4-5 in each class, but the more the better, so long as none end up alone).

Segregation will always be seen as racist, no matter who it's supposedly trying to protect.

You do realise that's what she meant, right? The goal was to limit incidents of white kids being alone in class, not to make a white only class (which sounds impossible since it sounds like they're greatly outnumbered).

I've read stories of students demanding segregated dorms in universities, from just a few years ago.

I think this was done with good intentions but ultimately it was a bad idea and parents have a perfectly good reason to want her fired. I understand the Principals reason, a good friend of mine moved to Louisiana years ago and his sister went to a majority black school. Everyday she would be bullied and groped by other students and she said the few white male students were beaten up almost daily. It got so bad that one day she was brutally attacked by several students and she ended up stabbing a few of them.

How does this school work? Like isn't that usually not the teachers' responsibility to transfer a student to a different class? And doing so on a mass scale like this so late in the school year? Even without the racist aspects of it, it doesn't seem well thought out.

Well, they go to college, then they go on to graduate work, and they usually work in a lower-ranking administrative role for a few years.
