It's good, I'm not as enamored with it as you, though. Mostly because it has aspects to it that do nothing but frustrate and really should have been identified as adding nothing positive from playtesting. I also feel like in general BotW just doesn't value my time, it ends up wasting so much of it. I consider that a major issue, others don't care and possibly even like a "grind."

I'd say my list goes:

1. A Link to the Past
2. A Link Between Worlds
3. Wind Waker (HD or original)
4. Breath of the Wild
5. Link's Awakening

(next would be Zelda 1 or Twilight Princess...versions w/o motions controls at least)

BotW definitely has the most grinding of any Zelda game. I'm not sure why people like that so much either. I think it's because some people think games need to keep getting longer and longer to be up to "modern" standards. And I think BotW does that in a way I can enjoy with all of the exploration aspects, but some stuff takes it too far, like the armor upgrades. I know they aren't mandatory, but upgrading your armor is fun - the problem is that wandering around for materials is not so fun.

BotW is a garbage tier game tbh. Link Between Worlds and Link to the Past are far and away the best games in the series.

It's not just the literal grinding, though. The game seriously doesn't care about your time in general. Like any time you're trying to explore a mountainous area and it starts raining. If rain made it harder to climb so you need more stamina, fine. But it doesn't, it just plain shuts it down beyond very short distances you can force through w/ climb-jump.
Or how there is literally no manual at all. You have to blunder through until you figure out how to do something on your own or catch it as a random loading screen tidbit. ("That's just Nintendo going back to the old school way" No, it's fucking not! Game manuals used to be pretty comprehensive and LttP for example outright gave you tips on where to go for the entire light world segment)
Or in general how huge and empty it is. I hated that about OoT, and this game doesn't get a pass on it from me, either. At least the wild life makes it a bit "lively."

I love Breath of the Wild. Definitely my favorite Zelda game and now one of my favorite games of all time.

Following BotW for me would be Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and A Link to the Past.

I don't think the rain is as big a deal as people make it out to be. You might have to wait a minute but for the most part, when I had rain inhibit my climbing I could just jump up what I was climbing and make it, or take a slightly less direct route that wasn't as steep.

Pretty sure there is an onscreen manual, like all recent Nintendo games, though I haven't read it so I don't know whether or not it's of any use. Nintendo leaving out paper manuals is nothing new and its absence in BotW had nothing to do with wanting to make the game more about discovery.


I think "empty" is a bit subjective. Yeah, there aren't necessarily concrete things to do everywhere, but I found that exploring certain areas was often rewarding by itself. OoT doesn't really even compare, because BotW has more variety and challenge in the terrain types offered. It makes sense that the remote, cold mountains and highlands aren't going to have a lot of people in them. The game is supposed to be about nature and survival in a post-apocalyptic world; if you had people running around all over the place, that would kind of ruin the theme. And there are some people who can be found traveling anyway, with little dialogues about their journey and how they're getting on with the weather or the monsters or whatever. It's a small thing, but it makes the world feel a bit more "real". Even the monsters play into the survival theme, having camps set up with stores of food, and they can be seen hunting.

Majora's Mask definitely does, though ALttP is debatable. I'd agree that ALBW and definitely LoZ don't belong.

No, it's just really lame. The dungeons are just nonsensical arrangements of blocks. Oh, I have to bomb this random wall or push this random block, how fun. The use of keys is also totally broken. Last time I played it I think I had like 9 keys in reserve by the time I got the Lion Key because the dungeons are full of pointless rooms or locked rooms that you can just access from a different side that doesn't have a lock

Yeah, the original sets the stage for the rest of the series well, but I don't think it aged well at all. I couldn't wait to be done with the 2nd quest so I could put that game to rest and never touch it again.
