When my dad drove me to school, just before I got out of the car, he would kiss me on the lips. I remember sometimes I'd jokingly say, "Yucky, yucky, yucky" like the act of kissing itself was gross. This continued until 3rd grade or so.

And this was not one of the worst things that happened in my development.

My parents would kiss me on the lips when they would put me to bed as a very young child. I grew out of it around 2nd grade.

Kids are very affectionate and mimic what they see. My brother in law would try to kiss me on the lips when I would leave his house until he was about 6 years old.

Also regarding the dog comment. It's weird I never let my dog I had growing up lick me on the face. Now wife and I have 3 small dogs, all of whom we let lick us in the face. One of them even begs for kisses which is when we give him a kiss on the nose.
