Pull the spark plug back out and check the tip. Is it oily? Have you tilted the mower on its side recently? Gas or oil may have coated the combustion chamber, leading to a flood condition. Try a couple sprays of carb cleaner through the spark plug hole to flush it out.

If that doesn't work, try cleaning the carburetor. Gas is dirty, and the carb has very small holes that may be clogged. Take it apart, blast it with carb cleaner, then install new gaskets.

Screw all that, just replace your lawn with moss.

If it is a push mower you need to hit the prime button a couple of times.

If it's a riding mower, check to make sure the battery has charge.

Did that already

I'm thinking the gas is just bad. It's my brother in law's old mower and he hadn't used it since summer 2015 when he got his current one. I'll try replacing it with fresh gas and see what happens.

It'll usually go sour after nine months to a year, depending on how it's stored. It accumulates moisture, oxidizes, starts to evaporate, etc.

Also, TC, when draining the gas, it's easier to disconnect the fuel hose running from the tank to the carb than to try and pour the gas out by tipping the mower.

Good to know, thanks. I ended up borrowing my parents' mower so I could get the yard taken care of and worry about mine this week.

Also apparently gas with ethanol goes bad a lot faster. Which sucks because every station here uses ethanol mixtures.
